Darksiders (Multi format)

At first I was not too bothered about the game as it looked like another hack and slash but its been described as DMC combat with zelda dungeons.

Quote:
a much more accurate comparison is Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series, although it's also fair to say that Vigil has cast its net pretty wide in the name of inspiration. There are plenty of quite open nods to the likes of Legacy of Kain (remember that?), Metroid and Shadow of Colossus too. What's impressive though is that, despite happily cribbing the best parts of videogames from the last decade, Darksiders is so expertly designed, it somehow never feels derivative and the result is a game that's vast, relentlessly imaginative and, above all else, hugely enjoyable.

also getting good reviews (but take all Play magazine reviews for the **** they are)

IGN's UK and Aus reviews went up yesterday, both positive. Sounds interesting.

Was mildly interested in this but just read the OXM review (who almost always overscore games) & they only scored it a 7, the biggest problem being it doesn't have one original idea in the entire game.

Looks great this, been following it for a while and should be a great start to the year along with Bayonetta. Don't really care if it doesn't offer anything new, you could say that about most games these days so seems like a stupid argument to me. It's all about the execution and from what I've seen/read about this it looks to have pulled it off nicely, especially love the art style.

Apparently has a vast amount of combos & other various moves, but let down with a couple of simple, overpowered combo moves that you can repeat from start-to-end of game & you plough through the game easily.

Getting some good reviews all round, and appears to be a 20hr (ish) length game....

Added to my queue on lovefilm last night and it instantly said 'long wait' - booooo!

I've been playing this game since saturday and it's really good. My local gamestore got it really early to my surprise. I also got the comic/art book as a pre-order bonus and it's a really nice large format book on quality paper. Not bad for a freebie.

The game itself it's loads of fun and constantly offers new and interesting things to do. There's a really solid combo system with a lot of moves. There are also plenty of challenges which force you to use specific skills and moves. I've been playing on normal difficulty and so far it's been a nice challenge without being frustrating. If you master the moves the combat is really satisfying. Yesterday I had a battle with about 30 bad guys and managed to take them all out without getting hit.

You also spend a lot of time in Zelda like dungeons. They are all unique and offer plenty of puzzles for which you often need a new gadget.
There are also a lot of boss battles. These often require you to use a combination of the environment and your gadgets to defeat.

The only downside to the game so far has been the screen tearing. I've been playing the Xbox360 version and the screen tearing has been noticable in almost every area of the game. I've read that it's less of an issue with the PS3 version of the game.

Yes, apparently there's no clear-cut winner between the consoles. 360 version has better graphics with Anti-aliasing applied, but suffers from bad screen-tearing. Or you can chose the PS3 version with minimal screen-tearing but no AA applied.

Shipped from Play, even though I'm already getting Bayonetta this week. So weak.

Hmm, hadn't heard of this at all but the initial post seems to call it a mish-mash of all my favourite games. The theme + style isn't something that I ideally go for, but might well give it a look.

I think both Bayonetta and Darksiders look worthy of purchase. I've got on more with God of War and Zelda than with the Devil May Cry series so I suspect I'll enjoy Darksiders a bit more.

I also don't have any problem with games that borrow from others as long as they are well implemented and the different gameplay parts all fit together and seem to belong as part of the game. For Darksiders I think God of War meets Zelda sounds like a good combination and the videos I've seen have been impressive.

I've pre-ordered this online and I think it has already been sent. No telling when I'll receive it with this weather.

Like every other year, my new year's resolution is to stop wasting money buying generic games like this that I already own a zillion versions of, hence my decision not to buy this...........yet.

Of course, like every other year, by March, i'll cave in & find myself buying the next Resident Grand Theft of Duty 23 on day of release.

If you know you'll cave by March you are just wasting two or three months of potential gameplay. Why wait...

I mean, just giving it 6 weeks will save you at least £10 on almost any game, but I just can't do it.

I shop for the best prices (Bayonetta was £32, this was £35) but I know it'll be less very soon.
