Not that I'm a pedant (ha), but there is still a year to go to the end of the decade. We went through all this 10 years ago when some celebrated the end of the millenium at the end of 1999, and the real celebrations were at the end of 2000.

For example, were you one year old when you were born, or after 12 months of life?

I will make this my one and only post on this subject in the forums. I leave to others to take up the fight elsewhere.

P.S. I am a signed up member of the apostrophe club as well.

Meh, 2010 is as near as dammit!

Looked at the PS3 games so far, awful prices!

Uncharted 2 - £38.93
ACII - £37.93
FIFA 10 - £32.93

I can go on...

Well that's a really bad example, since there's no unequivocal definition of the point at which life begins.

Also, a decade is any ten year period, so it makes no sense. By waggett's reckoning 2000 would be part of the '90s, and 2010 would be part of the noughties.

Well as there was no year zero, 2000 was the two thousandth year so the new millenium did not start until 2001 and if you follow that logic, the 10 year period will not end until the end of 2010. Really its all rather academic as the year numbers only relate to an abirtrary point in time (and probably don't even accurately reflect that point in time anyway).

I'll think you find almost everybody had their celebrations at the end of 1999, even some of the pedantic ones

Thats not right. The decade surely is 00-01-02 etc not started from 2001

2010 is the start of a new decade is it not? You dont count the year before it is completed therefore the year 09 is the last year of that decade, when thats been counted its the start of a new one.

By your working that would mean we were still in the 20th century in the year 2000.

Definition of decade:

noun
1.a group of ten
2.a period of ten years; esp., in the Gregorian calendar
a.officially a ten-year period beginning with the year 1, as 1921-1930, 1931-1940, etc.
b.in common usage, a ten-year period beginning with a year 0, as 1920-1929, 1930-1939, etc

The official definition is because there is no year 0 in the Christian calender - it starts with the year 1. (I said this was the pedabtic approach!)

Nothing that jumps out really. No Country for Old Men on DVD for less than £3 isn't bad though.

Not that I want to be a pedant myself but you've made two posts.
