She is fantastic in "in treatment" on sky Arts, huge HBO box office hit, she is one of the clients that Gabriel Bryne sees, a different one each night of the week.

So she is HOT PROPERTY in the US, and this film probably came from that.

looks like a good flick though.

Interesting to see she is going to be in a '30 days of night' sequel too. Should be interesting to see what direction that takes. Does the comic book have a sequel?

Well as this is the first film I have paid to see in 4 years! (I usually have my Cineworld card! but got to the counter and had forgot it NOOOO!!!).

Did I get my Ł5 out of the film? (the counter guy ran me thru as a student when I said I forgot my card, nice) that will be a Yes.

Really nice film, some great moments and the film worked and flowed well for me from twisty turny scene to scene. Melisa George was the film really, she is great and I cannot really say a bad word about her. She looks great, she acts well and does the job perfectly in the film, what’s not to like.
The rest of the cast is ok, but it really is Melisa’s film from beginning to end and quite some ride really with some quality little twists and turns, some expected and some not. Only thing I would say got on my nerves was a few very dodgy shots of a boat with people waving on it, which is used a few times, awful looking thing. Still o the whole the effects worked well and it has some good gore shots as well once it gets into the swing of it, feels more brutal as it gets further into the flow.

I got my cash out of the film and Chris Smith really does seem to be getting that bit better with each film, I loved Severance his last film, and was not too much of a fan of his debut film Creep, but with Triangle I think he is turning into a solid little horror director. Cannot wait to see what he does next.

I watched Turistas (Paradise Lost in the UK ) after it haha for some more Melisa action.

It has to be said it is more in tone with Creep's depressing ways, than the fun of Severance but that is no bad thing, at least all 3 of his films are very different.

Still Budget $12 Million is a nice amount to play with for Triangle, more Hollywood than his others (yes that should be Aussie).

At least with Triangle it will be good watching it a second time, as it is such an oddball film stucture/plot that hopefully things will come to light on a second viewing.

I thought they gave away TOO MUCH in the trailer... I sat there during the trailers in pandorum and I was Ooo... "That's my Melissa" much to the eye rolling going on either side of me...

Then they showed the shot where she faces off against herself and it was like "That's kinda spoilerish" but I've heard the press interviews and to be honest, it's nothing the director or Melissa hasn't let slip

Saw this last night and thought it was a great little film, you know whats coming but still has a few interesting aspects..

The whole thing based on her feeling guilty for being a terrible mum and wanting to make a mends.

However, one bit doesn't make sense...

The films time line when she first arrives on the boat and she is on her own, she must know what is going to happen as its not the first time, so no need to look confused? We now know why she is a little spaced out but not to the point of not remembering whats going on.

I can only assume its there to actually have a film narrative, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to the audience if she already knew what was going to happen and didn't figure it out..

Regarding your point Jez,

My theory is that the whole film is the sequence she has to keep repeating over and over. I guess it's that day as a whole that works as her punishment, as each sequence just ends up emphasising how bad a mother she is.

That means by the time she get's taken to the dock by the taxi driver, especially given the car crash beforehand she's so messed up (concusion due to the crash?) that she's consciously forgotten the loop is happening, which is why she gets all that deja vu when she goes on the boat the first time. Also that would be why there were so many bodies of the other woman, they're not just from a couple of cycles on the boat, actually just one would be.

So I *think* that means the other her that is around at the beginning/end is killed off by her every time in the same way. The reason we see it different at the start is because that's how she thinks she is, nice and a good parent. It's only when she goes back at the end and watches herself she sees things as they're really happening. IRC you only see her at the house at the start getting ready, then it comes to the dock, e.g. leaving her to be killed by herself and then have the crash.

That's my theory anyway!

Yeah thats a perfectly decent explanation

However...

The loop is not always exactly the same, as she saw herself hacking to death the masked her on the deck, rather than watching her fall off the boat and waking up on the beach.

So the loop is not always the same, but always ends up with some point her falling of the boat..

Good point, can't think what she did in that case then, as surely the others would turn up at that point as the previous lot had just died? Which would mean they'd be 3 of her around... Does that mean the one who'd just hacked the other one to death would then jump off the boat? I thought her plan then was to stop the others from boarding?

Saw this yesterday and it kept me guessing at to what the hell was going on (though I had guessed the major point considering it was pretty obvious!). Certainly keeps you thinking in regards to the plot and will be interesting to watch again. Melissa George is really very good in it. Liked the direction too and the ship sets are fantastic.

Right so I get that Jess is in some kind of 'purgatory'/time loop which starts with her crashing the car, then getting on the boat, then figuring out the only way to get back is to kill everyone, therefore starting it all over again. But what I don't get is that if Jess dies in the car crash (which is massively implied by them covering up the body in the road), then how do the five other people on the yacht see her? Or are they all just figments of her imagination?

Any help would be appreciated

Other than the confusion, I didn't think this movie was all that special. Found myself quite bored with it at times. I did enjoy the filling in the gaps ending, until the part that confused me came along!

There is your problem

Jess DID NOT die in the crash, that body being covered up was the Evil Child beating Jess body from the boot of the car which she killed for beating her son, which came loose in the crash. Jess was alive and well hence why she went back to the ship to save her son another time around, after she murders all on the ship yet again and jumps ship and starts again to save her son from kiddie beating Jess who she murders again

Basically the entire film seems to be about her Sons life, the only reason she would ever go back thru that hell ship again is for him, and she will keep doing it until she saves him somehow.

Well thats the way I saw it.

I kind of agree RomerojpgX, it's certainly a good explanation in the least, however:

How come the Jess that survives the car crash is basically fine? Her son is killed and the car is a mess. All the people running to the crash don't seem to notice her, or the 'taxi driver' who takes her to the boat.

My theory is that the Jess who survives the crash is kind of 'saved' from it. It's the end of the loop. The whole loop was her trying to save her son, she failed. The Taxi driver then takes her to the dock and kind of 'blanks' her so she's so altered and has forgotten the prior loop. It then just starts all over.

Also I don't think she ever saves her son. It's not purgatory, it's hell and it's eternal. That's set up by the name of the boat and the whole Greek (?) legend story of the guy rolling the stone up the hill for ever. She's in hell for being a terrible mother.
