modric was triffic tonight best he has played, bentley looked so much more like the player of old out on the right, cuds looked solid in goal which seemed to ease the defence

much to be positive about

Went to the match last night. It must have been pretty gutting to be a stoke fan in those first 25 minutes. They didn't create much, barring the cleared (by BAE?) headed chance but they didn't do much wrong either. We get 4 or 5 opportunities and score 3 goals. No doubting we were worthy of our lead though and I was glad to keep a clean sheet going in at the break to round off a perfect first half. BAE, Modric &
It just didn't happen for us in the second 45. Zokora played very deeply & it seemed to be working fine, then Matty came forward and gave the ball away, in the customary Dawson way, the end result being a goal for Stoke. After that Modric dropped deeper & though we had one or two chances, there was never any real sustained pressure. Not that they were any better. Did Cudicini actually have a save to make?
I really thought we needed a sub or two on with 20 minutes to go but we stuck with what we had. Maybe that's a reflection of Redknapps confidence in the players on the bench. What was particularly noticeable was that in the 2nd half Lennon & Bentley swapped flanks, in favour of Aaron but neither did much after that. David seemed to try to much & he often gave the ball away (trying some fancy flick/pass) or didn't track back. I don't agree with davecarter that his performance was a highligh. On the other hand I would sing the praises of Modric, BAE particularly for his very assured first half performance & Zokora who's something of an unsung hero these days.
The result was never in doubt, all Stoke really ever had in reply was Delaps long throws and some hard tackling. And who was the referee? I've never been at a game where there was so much ironic cheering when he finally gave a decision our way.

Oh and in the Independent. Lennon & cash for Keane. Did Harry ever see Spurs play with those two up front?

Indeed. Really don't see the need to go back for Keane and we'll have the old problem of only him or Defoe starting - not both. Unless we get some major injuries, I think we're ok up front for now.

Also, with Palacios on board, I think we might be ok generally. Harry just needs to get the players performing to their full potential. They're obviously talented enough but just can't seem to be that bothered sometimes.

The referee was Mike Riley and yes he was particularly awful last night, I think the only decision that went our way was Zokora not getting a yellow although giving Bentley one for his crushing but fair tackle on Etherington was a complete joke.

I didn't realise Appiah was still about, seems he is playing for the reserves tonight in his big chance to shine. Obviously he isn't up to much otherwise he probably would have been signed already.

Yeah, had kinda forgotten but I assume people like him stay for about a month so the timing's about right for a decision. Seems he has general fitness concerns (ie: general running up and down the pitch, as well as injury-prone-ness) but I assume 'Arry will make that decision over the next couple of days.

Heard nothing but good things about him but not a lot of point in signing him if he can't play 90 minutes or ends up in the treatment room most of the time.

This Keane for £10m write-off and Lennon story is starting to wind me up. Harry can't be serious can he?

Keane's out of form, 28 and would put as back in the old Defoe or Keane situation. Plus Pav is really starting to come good and Defoe has scored 3 in 3.

Shouldn't he be focusing on getting us a left winger instead of another striker?

That would seem sensible to me.

We have been buying players for too long, just because they've been available, rather than because they fit into a plan.

Getting Keane back is illogical, and selling Lennon now he is returning to form would be even worse.

Expect that to be announced by 5 pm today then.

We shouldn't even joke about it, because it could easily happen

Keane is a very good player who had a few excellent seasons with Berbatov. He's not worth £20m and we shouldn't be offering one of our brightest prospects (in an even tougher position to replace than forwards) for him.

He consistently did well for the club and will be remembered fondly but getting him back after he fails with a 'big club' would be embarassing for both him and us. Hopefully Harry's reading this....

For the benefit of Guardian readers, Comoli has launched an astonishing attack on Berbatov, Redknapp, and the Spurs fans for blaming him for the 'Nightmare Season' in today's Mail.

Idiot. Berbatov was a stroppy non tryer all last season, so they had plenty of time to get rid of him. Everyone knew he was going to Utd for over a year, so it was hardly a last minute thing.

Oh noes.

Your top striker gone for the rest of the season.

Looks like your back to Bent and Pav.

8-10 weeks is the end of the season? NOTW in exaggerated headline shocker!

It is a big blow and now it seems pretty much back to square one on the striker front. With Palacios coming in and Zokora playing well I wouldn't be surprised to see them both play with Modric back in his free role and Pav/Bent up on their own.

Nothing elsewhere - F365/BBC, etc...

Would be a big blow (and for my fantasy team!) but yes, I guess it'll be back to 4-5-1 with Modric pushing up.

This has been going round several spurs forums since this afternoon, chances are the NotW has put together a story from that. It doesn't look great though. The club normally announce the squad for the game the evening before I think, which hasn't happened here. So i would guess that either a) It's not happened and they're just late with the teams b) there is an injury but they're waiting on results of scans etc or c) it is a serious injury and they want to keep a lid on it, so clubs don't ask for x amount of millions more, when we come bidding for their striker tomorrow morning.

Now on F365:

Only three weeks according to them - less serious than initially thought.
