wordpress blog : a few Q's

I have just installed on the works server as someone wants a blog.

so an you have multiple blogs per install or do you need a new DB for each user? just that others may request it and would be nice to know if you can have one install and x number of separate blogs or if you can only have one 'blog' per install.

Its a unique install per blog, but they can share the same database. Each install has its own config, and in this config you specify a table prefix.
For each user, use their name or initials.

Actually, MonkeyCMS is probably what you want. One install, one database. Unlimited users. Bit more admin work setting up these users though, as its not 100% geared to multiple users yet. Worth looking into though! (ColinP will love you for it! )

and as for the CMS, we are trying to (or I am!) sort sharepoint out but its always on the back burner, but a lot of things at the mo are already implemented in sharepoint that people ask for, i just need time to learn, and do a few demo sites!

ExpressionEngine[1] can do multiple blogs and multiple sites from one install. It is not free like WP though, but blooming powerful, and is really more of a CMS than "just" a blogging tool.
