I saw 10 minutes of this on its 5th? repeat in a week during my break at work yesterday and I really wanted to gauge my eyes out. It seems to have reached the bottom of the barrel and has started using an industrial excavator to dig downwards now....

Did actually catch an episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures a few months ago and even though this was on kids tv, was far better in every single way.

I very much enjoyed the new music and hope it remains.

Yeah, OK fair point, but it did put me off before it had even started, I suppose the mute button will just have to get used if I do watch any more.

The reason why I don't like they revised theme is because they got rid of the original theme tune 'dum-de-dum' bass sound in favour of something that isn't as good. In fact, they should never have tinkered with the theme tune used in series 1 as all the mucking about has resulted in the theme being far too orchestrated and showbizzy, and deviating too much from its electronic roots. They tinkered for tinkering sake like a bunch of idiots.

Its not as bad as when they changed the Blue Peter theme.

The Dr Who theme has changed at least half-a-dozen times surely?

(and the Blue Peter theme has been "messed with" on quite a few occasions too)

Well said. The beauty of the original arrangement (and arguably the Davison-era Howell version too) is that you simply can't imagine how the sounds are produced - it's fittingly mysterious.
All the new orchestral stuff, drums and (shudder) rock guitar is bold and impressive, sure, but not very interesting (or, to my mind, appropriate).

My favourite recent arrangement has to be David Arnold's version for the 8th doctor audio plays. It sounds like it's being chugged out by a scary steam engine.

I really thought my ears were going to start bleeding or something the way some people have been going on about the change in the theme tune... But it's not really that much different is it?! Still sounds like the Doctor Who theme to me - at least they haven't gone down the 'Enterprise' cock-rock route.

Didn't Jon Pertwee do a vocal version of the theme tune

Amazingly, he did. 'Who is the Doctor?' or something. Imagine this thread if something like that happened now.

I think we now know where Shatner took the influence for his style from

Still doesn't beat Shatner's rendition of 'Rocket Man'

Hmm. I prefered the version before but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I did like the strings playing what the guitar now seems to be doubling. I liked the old version too, but I am a great fan of orchestral scores, Philip Glass and Steve Reich so I guess that's why I also really liked the last one. Not such a fan of 80s synth rock which is where this version seems to be going .

That said I still wish Whedon hadn't been so damned picky about the timing on the Buffy theme. So what if it was a bit out? The first two seasons' version with the choppy guitar rocked SO much more.

Actually, a Philip Glass version would be fab (and certainly restrained, unlike Murray Gold's over-egging).

There's a website - Whomix, I think - full of weird and wacky cover versions. The ones inspired by Michael Nyman and Danny Elfman are well worth a listen.

The title for the Agatha Christie episode has now been officially released, it's called "The Unicorn and the Wasp".

And Tom MaCrae's planned episode for Series 4 has been dropped due to some similarities to another Series 4 script and will now probably be made for Series 5.

Not quite. It took Ian Levine half an hour to calm down after hearing the new theme music.

Also, although the other producers are moving on - according to Outpost Gallifrey, RTD has decided to stay on.

It's possible i may be the only person alive quite pleased about this.

Let's hope he goes mad and decides to make a serious programme.
