[cricket] Pakistan vs England ODI Series!!

Ok lets forget the hair/pak/ball tampering/icc issue for a bit and lets concentrate on the ODI series.. its kicking off this week and should be a good tournament for both sides..

Personally, I did feel that Pakistan had the slight edge over england in the ODIs, but because of the hoo-haas of the last week i think they feel demoralised to the max!! Either way we have shoaib coming back and the some other great players making an appearence too. just hope we do well to help us get over this situation!!

game on i suppose..

I will be surprised if England come out of this series with an overall victory after the way we performed against Sri Lanka. There are some new players in the team who will have everything to play for but I am not really that hopeful.

It all starts tomorrow with the 20/20 game.

It depends on werther he is back to full fitness and is bowling at top speed and if he is accurate with his bowling because at his pace the batsman only have to lay a bat on the ball and it will fly away to the boundary.

I am not in favour of picking players like Gough who are getting on in years and haven't played for a while but as he says himself he is bowling really well for Essex especially at the end of the innings so his place in the squad on form alone is warranted.

It's nice to see the series back on track - between the players there has been no problem, and I hope this continues.

I saw yesterday Chris Adams single out James Kirtley for special praise yesterday - do you think Duncan Fletcher may have missed a trick here?

I hope Trescothick can hit a bit of form as well, and that Jimmy Anderson is back by the end of the series.

Kirtly bowled really well yesterday and although tow of his wickets were fortunate you have to praise the way he has come back this year despite all his problems. He could be a possible in the World Cup squad or even the ICC "mini world cup" tournament.

I think Gough will be a good comeback for England. He's an intelligent bowler and can bat better than any of Englands other bowlers I think.

Having said that it's been a long time since I've seen him play for England.

I have no problems with a player of Gough's age being selected on merit, which it is. It will be useful to have his experience back in a side that's looked a bit clueless at this type of match recently, and it can only be of benefit to the likes of Broad to play alongside him.
I don't think I'd go too overboard on Gough's batting prowess though. Yes he is capable of making runs, but I wouldn't say he's a better batsman than Dalrymple or Clarke. Mahmood and Harmison can also be pretty destructive, when they get bat on ball

Aye - we should have swooped and picked Mahmood as an opening batsman for Pakistan Test team

So then England have won the toss and are batting first, should be an interesting few hours.

144-7 doesn't look like it's going to be enough.

The first 5 overs are key to this game.

Pretty impressive all round performance from Pakistan, they bowled as unit brilliantly and never really gave us anything to hit. The highlights for me were the bowling of Broad and the batting of Afridi, only he would try to hit a hat-trick ball for six

And that catch by Yardy was amazing.

At least Trescothick has got some form back with this innings. Not sure about Bell opening the innings, I would prefer Strauss to be up top.
