Not a bad start to the season. Bellamy and Aurielo looked good when they came on. Sissoko was best player on the pitch by a mile. Agger played really well, Crouch's goal was well taken and Riise scored the goal of the season. Pennant and Finnan also had a good game together. Also Zenden is another option for the middle of the park.

Only downer was Alonso what is up with him? His passing was awful for the 29 idd minutes he was on.

Nice to get one over on Chelsea and hopefully we can do it again in a month. Interesting to hear what Maureen says, I am sure he will diss the community shield as nothing more than a friendly.

Zenden was pretty bad on the middle, plays far better on the wings.

Wrong way round there - Zenden is far more impressive to me as a central midfielder than as a winger now.

Very impressed overall today with us - pace throughout the side, dominating central midfield play and I thought Agger was outstanding given its his first game in a long time

EDIT: Oh, and a big to my MOM in Momo Sissoko. He truely justified my pick for him as my name selection on my new shirt

Zenden was much better today than in midweek-he should have buried that chance early in the 2nd half though

He appears to have been instructed to get forward a lot more too. Will get a massive reception whenever he manages to score. All he really needs to develop is his passing over longer distances. Easily one of our best purchases this decade.

Sissoko was immense... I really think he is pressing Alonso who seems to be struggling, certainly not fit yet after the world cup and shorter pre-season.

Momo seems to have improved his forward runs - only a matter of time before he gets a goal.

Zenden looked bright IMO.
and good performances all over the pitch from Agger, Aurelio, Bellamy, Finnan & Gonzalez.

was Hyppia injured?

The amount of ground he covered today was scary for a preseason game. He's really effective in that attacking midfield role - he breaks up the play really well in the opposition's half rather than winning it in our half when he plays as a holding midfielder.

I imagine Sami was just given a break and I think if Agger can stay injury free, its a switch we'll see more of this season.

but where do you fit Gerrard, Alonso and Sissoko in playing a system with a left and right wingers?
(Zenden as the reserve).

sounds scandalous knowing how good he is but maybe Alonso is surplus to requirements now?

I await howls

certainly going to be some major rotation this year.

Squad rotation will exist in abundance this season - but I expect Gonzalez to be the first choice LW

I still think Zenden is bad in the centre.

Sissoko is absolutly immense in the centre though, where the hell is Xabi gonna play?

edit: wheres Kewell?

Just catching up...

And Holy crap Balstino is the ******* son of Rafa...

But then he reverted to form about his favourite stiker...

Lovely cross for the 2nd...

I was impressed with the team today...We actually looked entertaining, and quick.

Sheva is going to terrorise defences this season. I expect him to be competing for top scorer this season. Ballack I think though will upset Chelsea's midfield balance.

Their formation smacked of fitting people in in. Nice to see the new boys, would have loved to have seen Paletta as well. But I presume that showing will go a long way to appeasing people upset by our pre-season games.

Obvious that most of the world cup players were off the pace though on both sides...apart from Sheva.

How good was it to have a strong bench though. Really look like a decent squad now. We'll be arguing about team selections now as the team probably won't pick itself.

Add one more striker and we'll definitely be able to compete.

so I'm not alone in thinking this. (alonso not being first choice).

don't forget Aurelio alternating left back and left wing too so even more rotation, or players getting 65 minutes and then subbed for the other?

wouldn't be surprised if Kewell was sold, Spurs were mentioned since they were also after Duff.

but Alonso going to Real Madrid would be a real shocker but with the squad now.

Maureen was actually quite nice in his interview though, I thought.
