Exclamation Martin O'Neill is the new Aston Villa manager.

5live reporting that Martin O'Neill is Aston Villa's new manager.

However, still to sort out contract etc

Meaning Doug will screw it up

If he is the new manager then I can't imagine he would have agreed to join Villa without some cash being made available.

I'm not impressed.

We don't need a new manager, we need a new regime.

erm.. Can't we wish for both? I'll take O'Neill as manager any day of the week, then we can work on the new regime.

1 step at a time mate

Certainly a better quality of manager than I thought you'd get, especially considering Sven was in the running at one stage

Yep my thought exactly, a planned buyout of the club?

I would rather we had the new regime before the new manager. If Doug stays in another season I doubt even O'Neil could turn things around and we'd all end up blaming him for another poor season instead of Doug.

Don't worry fellow Villa fans, i doubt O'Neill would come to Villa unless he knew Doug was on his way!

He aint stupid!

The season before MON joined Celtic, Celtic finished around 15 points behind the huns.
The season he joined, they finished 20 or so points ahead of the huns.

MON is a great man manager, though he has very inflexible tactics and he'll probably buy Neil Lennon for you, but with your current squad, he could probably turn you into a top 6 side, which currently is as high as I would expect - 5th or 6th.

Although I was glad he left Celtic when he did (his heart wasn't in it, with his wife being ill), I think he will be "fantastic" at Villa, and I ish him/Villa good luck! (though if he doesn't sign for you, I will simply wish you luck in getting rid of Doug!).

O'Neill must be desperate for work if he's going to Villa. What happened to aspirations of Man Utd?

Great to see O'Neill back in the Premiership and I can't believe that AV fans are anything less than absolutely delighted. Who would you have preferred? Souness?

MON was outstanding for Celtic, but like Andybhoy said, his heart was not there near the end. Personally I wish he came back to celtic as the muppet they have just now needs his butt kicked.

Im sure if there is money available then he will bring in some good players.

Hope he takes Petrov to villa.

Well hopefully it will be all sorted today, but as will Villa anything can happen!

Shhh keep this to yourself guys but Randy Lerner is flying in today, perhaps to seal the deal and announce O'Neill as manager?? (fingers crossed/ touch wood)

This is why i think he joined, a club with history and potential with Doug (please lord) gone, a clean slate you could say

I'm stunned, for that reason. He's been linked with far bigger clubs and is seen by many as Fergie's natural successor. No offence to Villa fans (I'm a Bristol City fan, so can't really talk) but why on earth would he want to go there?!?

Because its the start of a new era hopefully, a clean slate. That fart in a lift Doug Ellis should be gone and new owner with a few bucks coming in.

Fantastic appointment for Villa. I'm just jealous that NUFC couldn't lure him to us.
As said earlier he will buy Lennon, and probably the rest of his old Leicester squad.
