That's because in pre-season you don't push yourselves flat out. It has been said by most of the big clubs, that the aim of pre-season training is not to get your team fully fit and at 100% for the 1st day of the season.

And Garcia went off injured.

bit daft playing reina outfield tbh, what if he'd received a crunching tackle upfront and got injured ?

There was barely a tackle in the game - I imagine the 2 managers agreed to little contact hence the decision

I know that silly... exaggeration and all that. I know they wont go flat out. not even close.

this was way below that though... a lot less than I've seen them do in last year's pre season for example.

there was a nice 5 minute spell when Aurelio, Garcia and Risse I think were on together.
definitely going to have some fantastic options down the left with Kewell and Gonzalez there as well.

Not sure why people are upset...it's purely a fitness exercise plus Rafa gets to look at how certain players perform on a bigger stage.

It's the opportunity for fringe players to impress. It was pretty obvious the way he got the players to train during the half time break that it's more the fitness he's interested in.

Plus Reina playing in midfield.

Only first team regular that really looked bothered was Momo, but he plays like his life depends on it anyway.

The move put together for the 2nd goal was excellent.

Defensive mistakes came from players we'll hardly see this season anyway. I wonder when Paletta will start being phased in instead of Hypia...

He's impressed me so far. I reckon he'll flick in and out of the first team this season but for next season, he could really begin to make the slot his own.

Surely Agger is the long-term Hyppia replacement and Paletta the Carra understudy? Agger should really push on thsis eason.

Agger's total lack of fitness it seems is worrying me - he could quickly fall out of contention unless he can gain some proper fitness

Does anyone know if the Maccabi Haifa game gives you credits on your season ticket for future rounds? And is it on the telly? If so I'll probably give it a miss and put the dosh towards ice creams on my summer hol!

I don't think the Qualifiers counted last year so I doubt they will this year.

And you can guarantee that we'll be either on Sky or ITV for TV coverage as well!

qualifiers are 'open season' for the broadcasters

it could just as easily be on BBC or C5 as many have been in the past.

Certainly is ... but mid-afternoon, 3:30 or something, so remember to set your video all those at work like me

Also, according to Kraptalk - Aurelio's injury isn't that serious and he will be fit for the CL Qualifier 1st leg

BBC sport week quotes...

"He says he's a Red, but they all say that when they sign, don't they?"
Steven Gerrard is suspicious about new team-mate Craig Bellamy's claim to be a lifelong Liverpool fan.

Question is though john316, have you read anything to the contrary ?? And I don't mean pessimistic RAWK posts saying he'll be out for 4-5 months
