I don't think we are...

Only Chelsea and Tottenham have spent over £10 mill.

Man U haven't bought anyone and are waiting to sell Ruud to (probably) fund signings.

Arsenal have bought Rosicky and will probably wait to sell Cole before buying.

We've bought Bellamy and probably Pennant which will take our spending to 12 mill with maybe another 8 mill player (Kuyt) to buy.

Tottenham bought Barbatov and Zakora for about 18 mill.

Think everyone but Chelsea are going to playing with the same amount of funds this season...

Not many teams with a lot of dough at the moment.

But you have no idea what he is like and he is 20 so in football terms he is not really a kid. Momo was 20 when he signed for us and he was relatively unknown to English football fans at the time. He is a diamond.

This bloke might be a bargain and be top scorer at the end of the season or he may not. To dismis all our signings because they are not world class signings is a bit baffling.

We have had words before on this matter and I am not trying to get into an argument with you. I am just saying I think we should give them a chance. We did really well last season (except for those few weeks after xmas) and Rafa has added a couple of players to the squad including in Bellamy a top premiership striker.

Don't get me wrong signing someone like Trousergay or maybe Kuyt would be great but I think we have a pretty strong team now. And with only a few new players to integrate into the squad it will hopefully be a lot smoother.

Anyway...

Carson has signed a new 5 year deal so that may mean we've got a deal lined up to sell dudek.can't believe no-one's been in for him up to now. i thought kromkamp would've gone by now as well.

The rumours were that we offer cash + Dudek + Kromkamp for Kuyt to Feynord but they turned it down. But there was rumour a couple of weeks back we offer Dudek as part of the Alves deal also. So Dudek must feel loved at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club just releases dudek (or maybe both) before the end of the summer. Dudeks wages a rumoured to be massive so that's probably a stumbling block for most clubs. You would think someone in his position would be dying to move but as he hasn't made any noise this summer about it maybe he is happy to sit on his fat wages and see out his contract.

We can't afford to just give a fat cheque to Dudek so he'll just have to sit it out

Momo was an established player in a top league, very different. I am not dismissing him, I just dont think he has been bought for this season.

I am happy with the signings so far (other than what we paid for Pennant) so its not a question of giving "them a chance", but in terms of our first 11 we still need that extra something up front. Lets not forget how badly our strikers were in front of goal last season, getting chances galore as well. Bellamy is good, Crouch is good, but I see them both as the no. 2 striker, we need a real predator to play with them and gambling on Fowler to fill that role is not clever.

We have a VERY strong team, but we wont topple Chelsea with it as it stands. We have the depth, but not quite enough quality, that's all I am saying.

I'm probably going a bit mad but I reckon Chelsea will crash and burn this season

I can feel it my bones that this is going to be a good season for us, nearly 25 years supporting this club tell me this is gonna be a good one.

Although I will probably be crying into my pint at the end of the season when that bunch of ******* chelsea walk away with the league. But for some reason I am in my nostradamus mode and I can forsee a good year for the reds.

.
People were saying that every year about Utd in the 90s and it never happened. We need to look at the situation around us objectively, stop underestimating good teams, hoping they will fail. We should assume they will do what they did last season and aim to match them.

Could the real reason be there are so many footballers with bad attitudes down to the fact that they're not playing for the team they've supported since they were a kid...

It's a reocurring theme...

in Pennants case i think it comes down to a lack of guidance when he was younger. being the most expensive 15 year old and having so much money to spend would mess most of us up if you dont have a good grounding.

but he's kept himself clean and controversy free since he moved to Brum so maybe he has learnt and moved on..

i'm less pleased with this signing than i was with the Bellamy signing but i'll give the boy a chance. he's a Liverpool player and i hope he is a success.

We had 2 clubs vying for Djimi and we line up a loan-out!
Jamie reportedly £6.7M rising to £8M based on appearances
If that's true then Alves was only £2M more...

Rick Parry is quite the hard negotiator, isnt he? That is ridiculously more than we needed to pay

So, in your mind being sent home from training for being under the influence is clean is it?

I read somewhere that it was 6.2 million total which is partly dependent on appearences.

Pennant is a good buy. If we're worried about spending too much, well, we got Fowler for free and he was in the top 10 for rate of goals/time on pitch last season...as was Bellamy.....and now we have this Greek guy who has clearly experience and could well be awesome (or rubbish - dunno haven't seen him play).

I am very happy with the summer. Now, lets see if there's one more to come....
