avast antivirus, how much CPU usage

I'm current running avast as my antivirus software, I've noticed that ashserv.exe is running at about 25% of my CPU usage. Is this right, what does it run at for other users ?

Hmm, something is odd there matey. My install is using absolutely 0% of my CPU. Avast as a whole is a very resource not-hungry program for me too.

...unless its doing a system scan? Is it constantly on 25% ?
I'd suggest downloading FileMon from SysInternals. What you might find is that another program is writing to the disk, and Avast is doing an online scan. The other program writes again, and Avast checks it. Etc. FileMon will tell you what program is accessing what file.
