I thought he could only regenerate 10 times, though I could be wrong. I remember reading it in one of Jean-Marc Lofficier's books, perhaps the Universal Databank.

Anyway it doesn't matter in the slightest, in sci-fi anything can happen!

There are definitely ways around it. The Master was offered a new cycle of regenerations in The Five Doctors and took over someone else's body in the Keeper of Traken.

its 12 re-generations but that would equate to **13** bodies assuming regeneration 1 is from a "starting body"..

See my spoiler here. Well, it's not a spoiler as such, it's just a guess I read ages ago elsewhere, but who knows there could be something in it.

There's an easy way round the problem of the limited number of re-generations - just ignore it!

Although there is the problem of the collective anger of the few dozen people who notice contributing to global warning, not to mention the damage to the ozone layer from the gas emissions!

Oh come on it's a sci-fi series all they'll do is have an episode where the Tardis flys through a patch of Wizzlewuzlle Radiation which reverses the polarity of the Midichlorians in the Doctor's blood giving him more regenerations or something.

You'd better trade mark that.

Do people seriously think they will stop at 12 re-generations just because it was mentioned? It was just a big number someone made up at a time when they never thought they'd need to get to 12.

Although there is nobody really left to offer the Doctor new regenerations if he is the last of the Time Lords

In terms of ratings this season, Dr Who has been a success for the beeb. With all the DVDs and associated merchandise, Doctor Who has to be one of the most profitable programmes they've got - a regular little cash cow. They'll find a way to extend The Doctor's natural term beyond 13 bodies...

Although the limit on regenerations is 12 - meaning 13 Doctors - as far back as the Davison era it was mentioned that this can be reset.

I'm sure RTD - the big Doctor Who fan that he is - will be aware of this, and will address it before it comes an issue (which, if we have one Doctor per season, will be very soon!)

I'm going to temporally shut this thread has this is not the correct thread to be discussing the final episode and the series in general.
