If Fergie has indeed stopped buying, it's going to be a massive season for Berb and Nani. Also hope to see Tosic and Macheda break into the first team.

Alex Ferguson, you might be familiar with him, he's managed our club for about 200 years, hates the media and uses them to his own ends at the best of times.

Not long ago he told them he wouldn't sell Real a virus.

Maybe we won't buy anyone else, I'd be surprised if we didn't, but doubt Fergie actually means it when he gives the media a nice headline.

Yeah, I agree. It's all games.

Ashley Young is high on my wish-list. TBH, when you look at who's out there and what we've already got, there are only a small number of established players available who would improve our starting 11 anyway.

We'll probably buy a few more youngsters.

A bit of me agrees with Ferguson though, as much as I wanted another couple of signings. The transfer market has gone mad and average players are going for big big bucks. Some of the clubs that are dabbling in the market now may very well come to regret it when it comes to moving those players on. Can the likes of Liverpool who are still waiting to get their infrastructure in place in the form of the new stadium really afford to compete with the blank cheques of Real, City and to a lesser extent Chelsea?

Maybe sitting it out and strengthening in January is a wiser move. As long as the �80 million is still there for Fergie to use and it doesn't disappear into plugging the debt I think it could leave us well placed when things settle down a bit.

"You can't win anything with kids" remember. Maybe Fergie sees something in the squad he has which we have yet to 'get'.

I am not keen on Owen getting the #7 shirt either. But it may be a good bit of man management by Sir Alex, to try to get Owen to live up to the shirt number.

The other option was to leave it vacant in the hope of a big signing coming in. But I do tend to think that might well be it, as rustybin say maybe a youngster or 2.

I wonder if Fergie has learnt his lesson a bit with Berbatov, in that by signing him so late he was always playing catch up in terms of fitness and tactics. Maybe better to stick with what we have (considering there are not that many obvious options available) and make sure we are 100% ready to go for the start of the season.

Saying that, I would be as delighted as anyone if we unveil Aguero, Eto'o and Douglas Costa tomorrow

Exactly... what's he going to do - wave the �80m around and ask who wants a bite? He's basically saying that we won't be held to ransom over transfer fees. At least I hope that's the case!

I wouldn't be too fussed if we did no more business. I think we have a good crop of yougsters that mean we'll be challenging on all fronts again. Would also be nice to show we can compete with what we've got - Berbatov shows even 'proven' signings don't always work out as well as we'd like either.

It's a judgment that only Fergie can make. If he's right, he cements his legendary status. If he's wrong the same fans that called for him to give up a few years ago will be doing the same again.

spot on - Fergie has always liked a gamble and he's calling everyone's bluff - be interesting to see how it all develops

Of course he did. I don't think anyone would doubt that. SAF knew that Tevez was likely to be unhappy being behing Berbatov in the pecking order as he knew Tevez was playing better - and he knew that Tevez knew it too!

But other factors meant the SAF needed to give Berbatov every chance to succeed.
