"Hard Times" was cartainly Charles Bronson's greatest film, but I prefer its alternative title, "The Streetfighter".

I enjoyed 'Hard Times'. Looking at the dvd cover pictures there is a fight with a black guy missing.

Yes, I recall that the editorial write-up in the 70s mentioned that "an entire fight had been edited out". I have seen photographs where Cheney (Bronson) seems to be fighting a Black man at what looks like a docks area. There are no deleted scenes on my DVD and IMDB does not mention any 'Alternate Version'. The film being set in the 1930s, I wondered if there could have been any politically incorrect racial undertones in that sequence, necessitating removal.
If someone has any info on this missing fight, please let us know.

Got my R4 Death Wish box today.
Certainly excllent value at under Ł20 from Devoted DVD.
No customs charges either.
All 5 anamorphic.
Shame they didn't give us a surround remix on some of them.
The mono sound is so flat on the early ones.
I have an uncut R1 of the first movie if anyones after it

Is the whole R4 box uncut?
I own part one and 2, from Columbia Pictures Holland. As far as I know, they are uncut.

Many years ago, I saw a very good Charles Bronson film called "Rider on the Rain" in which he plays a police detective investigating a murder. I think it was a foreign film dubbed into English but I cannot recall the details. Does anyone know more?

The films in the Oz box are uncut, although Death Wish 2 on all versions bar the Greek VHS are missing some dialogue scenes.
Of course DW2 in the UK was cut to bits.

Hard Times, a very atmospheric movie. Given what happened to New Orleans last year watching the film now is a somehat poignant experience.

The BBFC has just passed Death Wish for release in the UK by Paramount, with no cuts and over four minutes longer than when it was last classified for home video over six years ago.

I always thought DW was uncut in the UK? At least I thought the last release was advertised as such.

I'm going off the BBFC listing which says that when it was classified in February 2000, it was 89 minutes and 7 seconds long and 'To obtain this category cuts of 0m 29s were required.'

Despite surprisingly passing uncut back in 1974, Death Wish was indeed cut upon its first official video release back in 2000. It had been pretty much considered to shocking to release on home video by the BBFC until the late 90s when a lengthy submission process began; as most will know the cuts applied to the brutal rape/assault at the beginning of the film.

The first VHS release of DW was pre VRA from CIC Video and was uncut.
The only cut in 2000 was the 29 seconds from the rape sequence.
Not sure where the 4 minute difference comes in.
That sounds like Dw 2 which IS extensively cut,or are you confusing the DVD with the length of the cinema version ?

No, I'm not confused (for a change); see my BBFC link above.

Might the 2000 release have been pre-cut by Paramount before submission? That might explain the differences in running time.

The original uncut 1974 film release was 93m 41 secs. The new uncut subimission, passed 1/06/06, is 93m 21s so, taking into account 4% pal-speedup, it does indeed look, as John stated, like the new version is about 4min longer than the original cinema release. Unless its a typo by the BBFC??? So, gulp, does this imply some kind of Michael Winner Director's Cut!!!?

Paramount wouldn't have done something stupid like an NTSC - PAL transfer would they?
BTW, the uncut French release runs at 89.53
