Hardware and Virtuosity are for a very particular taste, like mine, only. Hardware has great lines like: "I think it's stupid, sadistic, and suicidal to have children these days." and tv news bits like: "Eager citizens are already lining up at sterilization centers which will be open around the clock to aid in the transition to what the president termed, a clean break with procreation. In a related story, the two creaters of the population control bill were found dead yesterday in what appeared to be a bizarre..." make it great!

I'd recommend Circuitry Man 1 & 2, available on a double feature DVD. Also Cyborg 2, it's way way better than the Van Damme "original", has almost no connection to it, great acting and scene chewing, and one of Angelina Jolie's first roles, showing off her Tomb Raider skills.
Johnny Mnemonic is good too, it has Ice T being all Ice T and Dolph "Halt Sinners!" Lundgren as a killer priest, I mean how cool is that?
It might be described as one of Neo's subliminal messages/wet dreams before he awoke to the reality. Remember him listening to Dissolved Girl, sleeping by his computer when the guys came to get a minidisc with data from him, that's when he dreamt being the "cool" Johnny Mnemonic.
I'll have to check out Mr Woo's recommendations, never heard of them.
But either way, I've tried, for more than a year, to get something like Avalon, you've just gotta accept three things, one, you're gona die some day, two, there is never enough money, and three, you'll never see a movie like Avalon! Not even close. It's so great and unique.
Well, .hack//Sign, .hack//Luminality, and .hack//Dusk anime series have a similar, in-game kind of theme.
