Favourite Western?
Having watched a few great westerns recently I am on the hunt for some more - thought I'd combine your recommendations with another poll! I know I'm a glutton for punishment. Anyway here's a list of some that may be your favourite - Tell me your favourite and suggest ones worth watching.

Add George Stevens magnificent Shane to that list, Peckinpah's Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, and the quite tasty High Plains Drifter.
Also fond of Henry Fonda's performance in The Return of Frank James and other faves Drums Along the Mohawk, Rio Grande, El Dorado, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Northwest Passage.

I'd go for Once upon a time in the West - a HUGE film in every sense.
I also love High Plains Drifter - a western with a real edge, and another of Eastwoods morally dubious characters -

in complete agreement although John Ford's silent The Iron Horse is the original classic western. Lots of scenes are remarkably similar here. there is a 40 year gap as well.

As well as the Leone westerns, I love The Big Gundown (La Resa dei Conti) by Sergio Sollima, starring Lee Van Cleef and Thomas Milian and with a great Morricone score. I have only ever seen this in its trunacted UK release back in the 70's but would love to see the full length version if it ever becomes available on DVD.
