You clearly don't love the films enough if you're not willing to line FOX's pockets with an additional £35.

Use your eyes, people, the egg looks terrible - it makes the alien look like a tiny dog shagging a leg.

Awww, I think it looks kinda cute. All kinds of wrong, yes, but quirky with it.

I'm afraid there's no more room on my dolly shelf.

I'm normally a sucker for things like this, but, curiously, none of the Alien things have ever appealed to me. Neither this or the giant head.

The thing that is putting me off is the faff on you'll probably have to get to the discs.

I'm usually a sucker for 'gimmicky' packaging but these days I'm happier with a steelbook or slipcase

Having said that, when it drops below 50 quid (which it will) I'll snaffle it up.

I will agree that they should put an authentic pcm lpcm (whatever) HD lossles 2.0 sound. I mean look at the isolated score and deleted scenes in every disc that has the movie. Do we need isolated score? And they chould have put the deleted scenes in the extras discs. But don't start making conclusions yet. Let's just wait the reviews.

surely alien has been 7 channel all along - i distinctly remember a ridley scott interview in which he mentioned that the 5.1 mix on dvd was inferior to the 7 channel soundtrack found on the original 70mm release.

Oh wow! You sure!? That is awesome news! I watched alien after a long time, I have the region 1 quadrilogy set & parts from the others. I really doubt we will have the same as the predator. Alien is 1979 movie & it got clear and excellent picture quality. I believe we will get an awesome edition guys... And if Alien has 7 track original...well... I think we will have top quality :D. Now I am really drouling hehe.

Some very (unintentionally) funny posts here.

I would have got the egg version had it looked good - but it really doesnt so standard one for me. Question is - can I wait till Xmas? I doubt it!

JBlistening - are you insane? Or trying to be funny? Either way - keep it up... ;)

just checked - the 70mm release of alien in 1979 used the dolby six channel format - that was well before the days of 35mm surround sound and was only available on 70mm

Looks like a faff to me

No matter, as said I'll buy it... eventually, when the price drops. Not that it is that badly priced. I loves a bargain me.

Not quite. Four-channel Dolby had been available for a few years on 35mm by them. At least one 35mm print of Alien had a Dolby Stereo soundtrack as I watched it.

So folks, has anyone been able to descern if there is any basic difference between the US and the UK sets?

The extras list seems to be the same, but does not show the newer bits that some have mentioned, like the 'finding Burke' scene.

Ideas?

Also is the theatrical version the same as the first edition DVD as that truly sounds the best in Dolby stereo digital 5.1 with monaural surrounds and the centre channel WOW! Unlike the rubbish re-mixed directors cut along with a so called original theatrical version NOT! Because they took the left and right stereo or centre phantom sound image and overlapped it on the centre discrete making it virtually impossible to listen to the original Dolby stereo 6track mix!

Iím saying be careful with this version because I just donít trust bluray or DVD remix format anymore.

Now the Aliens theatrical is the only one I tend to watch the most over the lousy rubbish poor sound effects edition of the special edition that sounds like production sound that hasnít been carefully treated in the Dolby stereo mix, it seems rushed, as you can hear all the production sound not precisely matching with the final ultimate 6track Dolby stereo mix for 70mm!

Now if this bluray is produced in dtsHDMA Fox CAN KEEP IT! Iíve banned dtsHDMA for being played in m,y JBL home cinema since a few months ago, with new bluray titles and most of all films that was produced was mixed and recorded in DOLBY STEREO 4.2.4 or track-track and six-track discrete.

Fox and many other studios have been brainwashing us claming dtsHDMA is better its mostly a loudness of sly mixing to put DOLBY TRUE-HD down.

And if you watch Alien, Aliens Alien3 that was mixed exclusively in DOLBY STEREO and for 70mm 6track since when does it show dts on the end credits since when!!!!!

Now with Alien Resurrection it was released in DOLBY STEREO SR-D and dts.

Iíd say 9 times out of 10 what we hear in the cinema is mostly DOLBY that has revolutionized the film industry not dts. And if Fox goes and uses dts without giving the consumer the choice to chose DOLBY STEREO TRUE-HD over dts then I say they are unfair and there is no way Iím spending £90.00 or ever £45.00 at some knock down price!

Iíd sooner buy the DVD version at least it often comes with DOLBY and dts! NOW THEN!

As long as the theatrical DOLBY STEREO mix hasnít been tampered with I donít give hoot, if they want to do an alterative version.

Changes are its with digital hard drive on pro-tools today. Iíd say there would be slim chance of this showing up in cinemas in DOLBY SR-D.

Then again I could just pretend that dtsHDMA is DOLBY TRUE-HD

Cheers for the information, its what its all about the information.
Phew!

Do you think he is being paid per "DOLBY" ?
