Spag Bol Westerns

Great news!
Many classic westerns now available on DVD.

Sadly they are R2 Japanese:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/movie/special/west/sale.html

Anychance some of these are getting R1/R2 Euro releases or am I doomed to spend mucho amounts for them?

I simply must have a copy of My Name Is Nobody!

There is a region 2 UK version of Nobody in the works from Noveaux pictures. They are working on four Terence Hill westerns, Nobody, A Genius and the two Trinity films. They are planning on putting them out in May and June, but the dates always go back for these things. I know that they are working on trying to get some extras and are going to film interviews with Hill. If i hear anything else i'll let you know.

So I should hold off then on buying
"They Call Me Trinity / Trinity Is Still My Name" ?
http://www.bensons-world.co.uk/dvd/p...0000077105.asp

Or are the Trinity films you mention as forthcoming different titles than what's on the above dvd ?

the trinity films (they call me.. & is still my name) are out. i paid Ł15.99 for them from hmv (they are both on 1 disc). both have pretty good anamorphic transfers and there is a pretty good 20 minute interview with hill/spencer. the nobody films are listed as being released 07/04 i.e tommorow.

Thank you for the info./reply.
What I wasn't sure of is if johntchance meant that that a newer version of this recent Trinity dvd was coming out.
But it sounds like this Trinity dvd is that new version.

I'll have to go ahead and buy this since I assume that this is the best version that we will have of this for awhile (?)

And I'll be looking forward to any reviews of the Nobody release coming out on the 7th. Could someone please post some links here to any online reviews ?

Thanks !

both these came in at work today, had a quick look at both and thay are both anamorphic- and looked pretty good. certainly on a par with the trinity dvd. no extras bar a trailer on each though. shame they couldnt have put both on the same disc a-la the trinity dvd (both are on single layer discs and 19.99- prob find them cheaper online though). also they both just have the english language tracks on them. i think if your a fan of these you wont go far wrong with these discs.
shame about the awful cover art though.

Went to that website ans saw this....

alternate
ending of "The Great Silence (IL GRANDE SILENZIO)

Really? I would love to see that! After seeing the official version about 10 years ago I wanted to slash my wrists! Excellent film and I understood why it was released the way it was but it is sooo depressing.

The alternate ending is cack, its also on the fantoma DVD.

Alternate ending:

It does not make sense in the context of the rest of the film.

The dapamn you may want to put
in spoiler tags although it does say that on the back of the cover.

Well me chips and pickled herring were very nice and I have to say that I quite enjoyed the alternate ending you put up. I must admit
so thank you for that Garry. Not a great alternate ending but I actually prefer it.

Question thedapman

BTW when you say "the official version 10 years ago" what version are you talking about? I only ask as I discovered some interesting differences between the version I was familiar with (The Big Silence tape off BBC2 years back) and the Fantoma DVD.

Details...

Garry, the only version of Le Grande Silence I have seen was on BBC2 in 1990 I think. I was using the term 'official' in the sense of having the normal ending. I know that the BBFC have cut many Italian Westerns over the years (with cuts restored sometimes) so I have no idea what the definitive version is I'm afraid.

Slightly off topic, one thing that amazes me is why The Big Gundown has all but disappeared. I saw the truncated version years ago in the cinema but as far as I know it has never been shown on UK television and has never been released on DVD or video over here. The Japanese site that Goragio quotes has The Big Gundown 2 but I could see no trace of the first film. I've seen Sollima's Face to Face on TV, I've seen Corbucci's A Professional Gun on TV and even Five Man Army on TV but never a trace of The Big Gundown. It's odd that much lesser quality Italian westerns have turned up on US/UK DVDs and videos yet this has slipped through the cracks. It's a real shame.

Oh wow!
The Great Silence.

Haven't seen that since Moviedrome BBC2 (probably was 10 years ago). Weren't Moviedrome films supposed to be uncut?

Thanks for reminding me about that one.

Ok... I got the My Name Is Nobody and the double pack of They Call Me Trinity / Trinity Is Still My Name DVD on Saturday...

All are anamorphic and look great.

I'd was aware of the 'Trinity' DVD but as mentioned the boxart is atrocious and as they're a double pack (dual layered film on each layer) I figured they were some scabby bootleg like pan & scan print.

Not at all.

ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN 2.35:1 all the way!

Only had chance to watch My Name Is Nobody which was a cool flick.

I compared the grabs on DVDBeaver (R1 and R2 Danish) and the R2 (UK) one blows them!

Less cropping, better colours and sharper!

Here's some grabs I took of the same shot that DVDBeaver did...

Grab 1
Grab 2
