I didn't think the Plaza did movies any more! Guess they've not advertised much out of Stockport. ... hmm Sunrise may be worth a visit.

As far as I know the Plaza shows one movie a month. I've never been to a regular showing but I believe the film starts at 7.30 with live organ music from 7.00. I once did attend a festival showing of King Kong (the original) with Ray Harryhausen in attendance, that was fun.
The free Metro paper has a Plaza advert every Friday which gives forthcoming events for the next month or so.

The Passenger
11-13 August at the FACT in Liverpool and it's the new cleaned up BFI print that was shown at the NFT in London for a couple of weeks a couple of months ago.

Heres an offer that runs until November 26 from TCM and One Aldwych in London:
One fabulous way to go to the movies..!
From 15th September, most Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings... you can enjoy a glass of Champagne before a three course dinner in either Axis or Indigo restaurant and then take in a movie of your choice in the luxurious private Screening Room. Or, every Sunday enjoy a Bellini (or Bloody Mary if you prefer!) and brunch in Indigo followed by a movie
Ł38.50 per person including VAT and service charges. Available from 15th September to 26th November 2006
With a choice of...
A Season of British Cinema...
Get Carter
Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November
A vicious London gangster, Jack Carter, travels to Newcastle following the death of his brother to find out who was responsible. In this original version from 1971, Michael Caine leads us through the lies, deceit and backhanders of Newcastle’s underworld and gives his ruthless character a convincing chill
The League of Gentlemen
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November
The original from 1959, this British classic focuses on a disgruntled veteran who recruits a group of disgraced colleagues with pathetic futures to perform a bank robbery with military precision. With performances from Jack Hawkins, Richard Attenborough and Nanette Newman
The English Patient
Friday 17th Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th November
This timeless romantic drama is told through the flashbacks of a Hungarian Count as he lies on his death bed. The film reveals his work as a map maker with the Royal Geographical Society in the Sahara Desert and the world of love, betrayal and politics in which he found himself at the outbreak of World War II. Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas have increidble chemistry throughout this film
And Love Actually (but who cares?)

One place I always forget to mention is Stockport Plaza http://www.stockportplaza.co.uk/ . It's a 'proper' 1930's cinema with an organ for silent movies and pre-movie atmosphere. Over the next few months they are showing-
- The Great Dictator (29 June)
- What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (13th July)
- Swing Time (6th October)
- Universal Dracula and Frankenstein double bill (26 October)
- Get Carter (16 November)
- It’s A Wonderful Life (30 November)

Mr Hodson, In the interests of accuracy, if not pedantry, the NMPFT now calls itself the National Media Museum, or NMM. I'll miss the NMPFT as I always imagined that was a movie starring Jayne Mansfield and Tom Ewell.

I'm ever so slightly comforted by the fact that the National Media Museum still calls itself the NMPFT in emails, so 'pfffft' to the march of progress...

It's an educational visit, go see the Grade II listed building, support the future of the building and tell her about the impressive Compton Organ. The Plaza is a charity, and some of the recent funding is going to providing improved wheelchair access. Make a whole day of it, go to Staircase House and the Air Raid Shelters for authentic 1930's vibe.

The promise of a choc ice has sealed the deal (no need to mention the impressive organ...)

This thread is a great idea as I love watching classic films on the big screen. I'm going to book for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and the Halloween double bill at the Stockport Plaza too.

Last Tango in Paris, Henry V and Sound of Music from Park Circus are the ones being screened at the Cambridge Film Festival I think.
