I didn't think the Plaza did movies any more! Guess they've not advertised much out of Stockport. ... hmm Sunrise may be worth a visit.

As far as I know the Plaza shows one movie a month. I've never been to a regular showing but I believe the film starts at 7.30 with live organ music from 7.00. I once did attend a festival showing of King Kong (the original) with Ray Harryhausen in attendance, that was fun.

The free Metro paper has a Plaza advert every Friday which gives forthcoming events for the next month or so.

Saw Don Juan (Warner, 1926) at the Paramount Theater on Monday. My first experience of this kind, it was the most fun I've had in a long time. A huge cheer went up from the audience when John Barrymore made his leap from the top step onto Montagu Love. Dennis James played his transcription of the original Vitaphone score on the mighty Wurlitzer. More swashbucklers follow each Monday this month:

One place I always forget to mention is Stockport Plaza http://www.stockportplaza.co.uk/ . It's a 'proper' 1930's cinema with an organ for silent movies and pre-movie atmosphere. Over the next few months they are showing-

It's an educational visit, go see the Grade II listed building, support the future of the building and tell her about the impressive Compton Organ. The Plaza is a charity, and some of the recent funding is going to providing improved wheelchair access. Make a whole day of it, go to Staircase House and the Air Raid Shelters for authentic 1930's vibe.

This thread is a great idea as I love watching classic films on the big screen. I'm going to book for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and the Halloween double bill at the Stockport Plaza too.
