Although on general cinema release at the moment, I'm looking forward to the DVD release of this remastered classic. The R2 looks a bit bare bones, though the region 1 has commentary and making of featuretes. Both releases are listed as fullscreen and could well be correct for a 1950 film. Can anybody confirm the correct aspect ratio?

yes it is correct at 1.37:1 (1.33:1 on dvd)
I have the R1 and it's glorious

the interactive "original morgue prologue" feature is a great extra.

Would be a shame if the R2 was a stripped down version of the R1. I thought most Paramount titles were the same across regions? There have certainly been extras certified by the BBFC for this, what they are and whether they are the same as R1 I don't know though.

Just watched this and although I was familiar with the general theme of aging actress living in the past, this movie is so much more and it completely blew me away.

Excellent!

I am of course talking about the 1950 version.

I've been looking at a lot of Wilder movies lately -- Lost Weekend, for example, and Some Like It Hot.

Sunset Boulevard has been repeated on Sky during the past year, and I've re-viewed it three or four times. I'd forgotten how much amazing stuff there is in there: the first view of Norma Desmond in long shot, for instance, calling out "you there"; the creepy funeral of the chimp; the shot of rats in the swimming pool; the "waxworks" playing cards; the droning of the organ in the draughts of the decaying old house; and that hard-boiled, masterful screenplay.

It's a damned fine film!

Sunset Boulevard is one of my favourite movies along with The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari , Nosferatu, The Bride Of Frankenstein, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs , Double Indemnity , Singin' In The Rain , The Wizard Of Oz , Whatever Happened To Baby Jane , A Star Is Born (1954 Judy Garland version) , Pinocchio , Gone With The Wind , Rebecca , Fantasia.

It's a marvellous movie , and has so many brilliant scenes, ( the coat salesman , the final scene on the stairs , to mention byt two! ) , a great score by Franz Waxman , and great performances by Swanson and Holden!

Agreed. Sunset Boulevard is one of the great movies and can be seen repeatedly over the years. I watched it again recently and found new aspects to enjoy and admire even though I had already seen it countless times.
