[PS4] Days Gone

I assume that with there being no post or discussion not many people bothered with this?

I dont understand the reviews at all. Im enjoying it a lot.
The world and atmosphere is outstanding.
I saw a lot of reviews mention it being generic but this could be applied to 90% of games nowadays.

I’ve bought it, purely on Jim Stirling’s review after IGN put me off but I’ve not had a chance to play it yet.

IGN had their bitchy nails out for the game since one of their reviewers cried about "another white male lead" in a preview

There is open world fatigue in gaming but the game looks like a 7/10 type game not the disaster some are saying

Open world Sandbox games are my favourite genre & normally I'd be all over this but it looks so generic & doesn't offer anything new to the genre. My recent experiences with the likes of Far Cry: New Dawn & Just Cause 4 have dampened my sandbox addiction at the moment. I've not even bought the New Metro game yet, despite it dipping below Ł30.

I will probably get this eventually, but will wait for it to hit the Ł25 or below price...

I've had this for a few days and I would say that in hindsight it would be worth waiting until the price drops a bit. It has some very good moments and looks good but it is hampered by a real lack of class and polish and an overwhelming feeling of familiarity. Even though it doesn't really play like it, you can't shift the comparisons with The Last of Us. The problem is that it doesn't come close to matching anything about it.
I would say that it does provide quite a challenge as resources and supplies are always low so you have to think about how to approach different missions. However, the downside to this that your bike is always close to running out of petrol so it curtails any urge to just go out an explore the map. What's the point of an open world game with a handicap that prevents you from exploring?
I'm going to try and get through the story line missions quickly and then trade it in while it's still worth some money.

I've pretty much finished this now and have just got to clean up a few side missions. I have to say the game very much picks up about halfway through and it often get rather intense. So overall it was enjoyable game which I was pleased I spent time with. However, the narrative scenes were unforgivably awful; especially the ones mixed in with missions that you couldn't skip. The main character is a completely unlikable charmless caveman with absolutely no development at all. Quite why any of the other characters view him as some sort of hero or leader is laughable. By the end of the game I was pretty much skipping all of the cut scenes as I'd totally lost any interest in the story. The voice acting was risible throughout and often totally bizarre. The amount of times I was sneaking around in a mission trying not be seen and the main character just starts shouting out loud for no reason as if he has no inner monologue. Fortunately, him shouting makes no difference as apparently bad guys can't hear him anyway.
So I would recommend this game overall but only if you forget the story and skip all of the cut scenes.

Similar experience for me after playing this over the weekend. It doesn't offer much new, but so far it's been Sandbox fun & playing it stealthily, has been tense & the A.I. has been fair...

I've been playing this on & off over the last month or so & still enjoying it in small bursts.

I've witnessed several large hordes & always try to avoid them as any time I do try to stealthily take them on (with pipe-bombs & Molotov cocktails) they just over-run me with their large numbers.

Are you just supposed to keep out their way until you level-up & get better bombs/weapons? .... Are there any future game missions that have you taking them on?

Once you get the Chicago Chopper it becomes easier to take down the hordes. I used an attractor to lure them out (preferably in cover) then grenades/pipe bombs or molotov's to wipeout around half the horde then finish them off with the machine gun. Having the skill 'Two Birds, One Bullet' is important and maxing out focus.

When you've leveled up enough hordes become infinitely doable. I did them all in the end without too much difficulty.

Thanks for the tips. I've did the attractor thing & tossed in pipe bombs/molotovs but they've been disappointingly weak & only taking out a few at a time, despite landing in the middle of the heaving packs...?!?

The napalm molotovs are crucial to clearing a horde. With napalms, attractors and pipe bombs I managed to clear the saw mill horde without being seen.

You get them as part of the main storyline so you'll get them eventually.
