Help wanted,please name the film.

Can anyone help me think of the title of a film I have been trying to find. It is a Japanese film about a woman who writes letters and never thinks they will be read be anyone, One day someone replies to the letter and they start communicating to eachother. It is a newish movie I think but is set in old time Japan.
I hope someone can help me think what it is called.

Sounds like Shunji Iwaii's Love Letter, all except for the old time Japan part.

yeah but Il mare also sounds like that for that matter so not exactly a new plot

I was looking at that film and I don't think it is the one(Kicking myself for forgetting.)
I will keep searching whilst I try to persuade my brain to work properly.haha.

Can you remember any more details about this film? The scenario you describe will probably be familiar to many members on here, but it could one of many films.

It is Shunji iwai's Love letter. I was searching around late last night and I remembered the name of the other film I watched too,April Story,I remember now watching both.
Thanks for your help, you were fast at guessing the film and with my brief description.
