Playing behind closed doors has been on the cards for ages.
Taking a look at the current Championship table shows how declaring the season null and void just isn't feasible. Technically pretty much every team in that league can still be promoted - and would all be able to sue the FA for £100M potential loss of earnings. There is no way the FA/PL could afford that

This goes beyond sporting issues though doesn't it? Wouldn't surprise me if 2019-20 season ends up being declared null and void ,wiped from the records.

It does but currently there is absolutely no reason to do that without trying playing behind closed doors and then postponement first.
There is no talk of any other country's season being wiped and yet the media here seem to want that to be the first option. It is totally nuts And tin foil hat time - it wouldn't even be an option if any other side was top of the table

Even if the season was declared void, there is little doubt who the best team has been this year. You're champions in all but name now, and you'd be champions in the eyes of most football fans afterwards. Wouldn't surprise me if all the other teams conceded it in that instance so that you won it 'officially' anyway.

I agree but it is not just Liverpool we are taking about here.
Why should teams like Norwich, for example, get another £100M that under normal circumstances they wouldn't be entitled to whilst other sides ( in the Championship ) miss out ?

Because football isn't actually more serious than life and death.
They can finish the league now and declare the result in places like Italy, where they've probably known who was going to win this year before a ball was kicked, we can't do that here.

I can see them pushing the Euros back until next year and halting the season temporarily until late May/June when things will hopefully have calmed down.
The financial implications of cancelling the season are just too big for many clubs.

3 Leicester players self isolating now. I can see how that is going to cause a problem. I'd never considered the prospect of players and teams being understrength, which makes me think that maybe I was a little hasty earlier today saying we should just award it to you.
What was the name of the horse that "won" the National after a false start, and then they cancelled the race? You could end up being a Pub Quiz question.

UEFA are having a meeting on Tuesday to discuss pushing the Euros back a year.

And if they decide to end the season where it stands you'd have West Ham, Watford and Bournemouth all on the same points but Bournemouth relegated on goal difference without having had the chance to play out the rest of the season to try to stay up. That would be really unfair, and again likely to result in legal action for loss of income.
Surely the postponing of Euro 2020 until next summer to allow European leagues to suspend and complete later on would be the sensible and fairest option for all leagues.
Plus I was looking forward to seeing how West Ham manage to fill the Taxpayer's Stadium when they drop down to the championship....!
It will be really disappointing if after 30 years and having had such a great season until a few weeks ago it fizzles down to winning in an empty stadium with no fans, it'll make it feel really flat

Arsenal Brighton off as Arteta confirmed positive. Arsenal played Everton jsut over two weeks ago. Chances of Monday's derby being postponed? Really hope not. Desperately hope we can play (and win) the next two games without delay and not closed doors. Watching bits of the CL games in the week with no crowds is weired, kind of eery training ground non-events.

Stupid idea maybe, but could we not just roll the points over until next season? So you keep the advantage you've accrued, and we go from there?

How does that help Leeds and West Brom who have a very good shout of being in the Premier League next season ? Anything could happen next season meaning a 25pt lead at the start is not the same as a 25pt lead with 9 games to go.
Delay/postpone seems the most likely option now and if they were forward thinking enough could be managed to also tie in nicely with the WC 2022 which is due to take place in November/December

That could be the key. Shift the timing of the seasons for a couple of years to summer and in 2023 have a short interclub tournament thing from Jan-May to get the schedule back on track.
It'll be a fudge, though, you know it. But there's no chance they can carry on now - whole Everton squad self isolating this morning.

Yeah, that was who I was paraphrasing. It was a dickish statement then, and it still is now.

So all PL games are off until at least 4th April - was inevitable really. Though I notice there is no news from the FA about the FA Cup games at the end of the month
I wonder if that means Everton/Palace will now be rescheduled, and we start up again at City, or all games will just be shunted back ?

it's going to be a nightmare, logistically.
Unless the Euros are cancelled and they just ove all the fixtures back a few weeks and start up again

It depends how long the postponement is for; if it's just 2 games then they can be played in less than a week. Or they could convince the clubs that 36 games is enough for the final standings to be used ? But then what happens if one of the bottom three clubs has missed out playing a difficult game ?
Otherwise, just put the Euros back a year ( which I have read all the FAs will be pressing for on Tuesday ) and unless the postponement last for 5/6 months then everything is fine.

"All elite football in Britain has been suspended until at least 3 April"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51867989
Not sure how accurate the report is as they seem to include women's football as being an elite sport.....
