Monopoly Deal is an excellent card game. It's the only version of Monopoly I'll play!
I introduced some friends to Dominion yesterday. We just played an introductory game but I think they've all fallen for it.
Good

The general what you've been playing discussion thread
Agreed on monopoly deal, top game.
Just played some more Carcassonne gold rush, minus prairies and tents with my 5 yr old, great fun. Port Royal and Camel up tonight with the wife and in laws
Edit: didn't get round to port royal but camel up was a great success. It's a simple but quick game so doesn't outstay it's welcome. Played again with the 5 yr old today and he loved it, more for the novelty pyramid dice tower than anything but that's all good.

More Monopoly Deal again today. It's easily my current favourite card game which amazes me considering how much I despise the board game. I wouldn't have given it a second thought had it not been recommended here.

It's a card game version, first person to collect three complete sets wins. You can do this by playing action cards and screwing people over!
A game usually lasts around ten-fifteen minutes or more depending how many are playing.

Yup, have a look on YouTube for some video playthroughs. I'm sure you'll like it and it's only about Ł6.
I bought the Xbox One version the other week and went to play it yesterday only to discover it has no AI or local multilayer and there seems to be nobody playing it online. Total waste of money.

We've been bringing out Small World for a fair few plays recently. It's quick to play, good for 2-5 players, and very family friendly. The theme is good, a mythical collection of Sorcerers, Giants and Skeletons waging battle in a world that's just a little bit too cramped for everyone.
My 11 year old regularly beats me and says that I overthink things - he's most likely correct!
I do like how the board is different depending on the number of players - it forces the conflict mechanic, and trading off scoring point against taking them off your opponent(s) encourages a reasonably deep level of strategy (just don't over think it!).
I'd highly recommend the iOS app too, with lots of multiplayer options and a few of the expansions available.

Castle Panic and Camel Up mostly here. My 6 year old loves both but tends to lose at Camel Up as all he wants to do is shake the pyramid for dice

My birthday is coming up and since I have no ideas what I want from my wife I'm thinking a board game... I'd like something that she can play with me alone (2 player) but also with the family at Xmas and with my semi regular game group... Any thoughts?

Some thoughts - Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Small World and then Forbidden Island / Desert.
Have a look at boardgamegeek and the Amazon reviews for more details.
Monopoly Deal has had a few good mentions and is dead easy to teach to family.

Yep. Pandemic is co-op and has some expansions I believe.
I find them easier to teach.
Maybe something with a traitor mechanic like dead of winter or shadows over Camelot? Soc is 3+ I think though.

We played Betrayal at House on the Hill last year. My mates and I like it, but family don't get it... I'm tempted by Small World, or I heard good things about 7 Wonders? Ideally id like something non-fantasy (like TTR) as they get that a bit better

It's brilliant. Though I think the two player version is an unofficial variant.
Great for three, four, or five though.

San Juan is a card game version of it ... Though sells for silly money as I think it's out of print

I can recommend San Juan, ticket to ride (nordic version for 2/3 players only) and pandemic.
