Played Evolution for the first time yesterday - wasn't sure what I was going to make of it as I'd heard mixed reports, but I rather enjoyed it. Not one I'd buy but wouldn't mind playing again (might have helped that I was onto a winning strategy from the get go).
Our game took a while as we played it 6 player, but I'm sure you could bash through it quicker than that.
Also picked up Arctic Scavengers recently. I really enjoy deckbuilders it seems! Was hoping to get it to the table last night but didn't, so hopefully will do soon.

Bought Exploding Kittens (NSFW) for my sister-in-law over Christmas so we played that quite a bit. Some of the cards are genuinely funny, but the game itself was a bit weak IMO.
Also played Munchkin for the first time - that was great.
One of my goals for 2016 is to build a gaming table. Found a nice step by step. Excited about that. On the lookout for a good deal on a table saw now - that will eat into the budget for a while.

I don't have the space for a dedicated games table, or the skills to make one, but could you link to the guide anyway? Just curious.

Yes please share the plans!
The board game cafe we play at has really good tables with a shelf under the top, which is handy for storing the game box, instructions etc once you've got a game out.

Sorry for delay spotting this, been in Nevada for work.
Plans here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-o...FfM2FjdVE/edit
I'll probably mod it with some cup holders and drawers.

So, my friend got himself ticket to ride : UK expansion. Quite different to the usual game as you have to buy technologies to build longer routes etc.
Anyone else played it?

I have the special edition which means I can't expand unfortunately as the pieces are a different size. Base game is good enough mind

Ah ok. The only issue is you can do a mega route which is worth 40 points. My friend did it early on because there was only 2 of us and he amassed loads of white train car cards. Game was over then though :/

Yep bought it, played it once, had read reviews and opinions that the 40 point route is a fools errand as more often than not you can't complete it in time, but if you do complete it its won you the game. Lo and beohld in our game one of us got the route and won. SPoke at my gaming group and another player said it was broken, it's all down to luck on how many wild cards you get.

I ummed and arr'd over getting it but the expansions are priced such a way that I end up preferring to get a new game instead.

I feel that about most expansions, sequels and se's. I can't think of many that I'd prefer to a new game and mostly they're too pricey.
The other thing is they often lead to unbalancing and harder to explain rules.
E.g I've ended up with about 10 Carcassonne expansions from gifts etc. I love Carcassonne, but only ever use (our have used) 3 or 4 of them as I'd rather just get playing than need to explain more rules. And Carcassonne is easy as most people I know have played it. With a more obscure game the challenge is esculated!!

I do have a few expansions. We recently got Supercup for Camel Up, and I've just ordered the pack of all expansions for Survive: Escape From Atlantis. But in both cases the expansions were around £10 each, so not too bad.

Lol, funnily enough escape is an exception for me too. I have squid and 6 player for that. Under a tenner for both!
