Well, Adobe don't make things easy, do they ?! I bought a card for $100 for my first year from B&H (discount from $120). So now that has run out, I went to add my credit card details for renewal, but my account had been auto-set to the USA (so I would need a US-addressed card).
Googling how to change the country = not possible, need to create a new account (as per Adobe). So now I've set up a new account, updated my CCloud login, and went to add my credit card but they're after £102 ! Sheesh ...
But it appears that I'm now somehow on a month's free trial ! It's weird there's no recognition that I have both LR and PS already installed and previously registered, as you've been unable to re-install free software trials (without any date/registry hacks) for an age.
So when my free month is up, I guess I'll get the £80 code from Amazon. If Adobe had just left their own price at £80, I would now have paid up for renewal, without a free month, and without Amazon's commission to them. Very odd
Affinity Photo is a Lightroom alternative for Mac, now available as free beta for Windows. There is also Affinity Designer. Both are about 250mb download each. I've not tried them yet.
Worth a look, especially if your LR is sluggish (so that would be everyone!).
Have given a Affinity photo a go this morning.. works pretty good for editing, as a Photoshop replacement, but I could not find any library or management features.. so I don't think it's a lightroom replacement in that respect. But I could have just missed all that in the brief play I had...
No it's not an asset management tool. I'd say it's a photoshop alternative rather than lightroom. It will process raw's but the results are horrible, at least for my fuji RAF files. I'd use it for editing after processing in lightroom except I've photoshop as well and that's vastly more mature so it's just kind of redundant really. Shame as Adobe needs strong competition to keep them honest but I couldn't recommend anyone that shot raw to go for just affinity at this point.

No, I'm sure that resides on the external too. I only have the actual application stored on my main HD.
Curiously my main HD has been creeping up and own with very little input from me. I now wondering if my time machine was backing up the same time i was importing which led to me thinking it was storing images on my main HD.
The default will be on your main drive with the actual program, so unless you've specifically changed the defaults then everything will still be there. And I say 'they' cos there are a couple - the RAW cache and the image previews (especially if 1:1) - plus the actual catalogue file and its backups too.
RAW cache and image previews can easily be 10gb each, the catalogue another 1gb and the backups another 5gb (or if you've set them large and never done housekeeping these could be much larger) so that's 26gb, extra to the actual RAW files themselves.
Also, if you edit the files whilst on the external, this will be really slow unless you're working with smart previews. (Apols if I'm teaching you to suck eggs )
Just had an email saying CC is going up to £10.10 from my renewal date. As I don't use photoshop is it easy enough to get the standalone version of LR and migrate catalogue etc. to it?

You might be able to pay less in US$ for a single app - discussion.
If you do decide to cancel, they may try to persuade you to stay with an offer of a cheaper price or free months - the same case is discussed here and here.

Adobe sure don't make things easy ! Rather weirdly, I had somehow been enabled on a monthly payment plan, and they had already taken a couple of months payments from my credit card ! This was legit, following on from my annual code that had expired, but weird they didn't even email me to tell me !
Anyway, it's not obvious where to stick your redemption code on your account page, so after googling and reading their help page, clicking a link takes you to a dedicated redemption page. Cut/paste the code and it's not valid on that page ! Helpfully given another link, which works this time. Needed to agree to some T&Cs about future payments that didn't make sense, and then the Adobe site tried to auto-download LR again !
If you're confused with the new LR rebranding, these videos should help. Adobe really are a weird company. Not only have they changed the name of their flagship photo editing product, they launch a 'new' product with the old name !
In a nutshell, our love-to-hate 'Lightroom CC' is now 'LR CC Classic', and there's a new programme called 'Lightroom CC' (which is basically the phone app that now runs on win/mac); why didn't they call it something like Lightroom Cloud ??

Quite annoyed with Adobe for killing off their standalone LR. Was happy to continue with Adobe LR latest, and CS6 and not pay the subscription charges.
Paying the upgrade charge for LR every two years was nicer (although I do recall when they release LR6, a month later they introduced a new feature for LR CC - which felt disingenuous, they could've/should've included in LR6.
Looks like either I migrate (and loose my VSCO plugins for LR) to another system, or buy the Adobe CS annual sub during Amazon's Black Friday ~ £69 (or hope they do it again).
