It wasn't a difficult group and United blew it. Play the reserves in the Europa and concentrate on the league.
Good luck to Basle.

This was an easy group. The blame lies with Fergie. Oh AND WE NEED A TOP ...note TOP STRIKER as well as a better midfield.

Dreadful... Smalling for torrid for the second but once again Evans doesn't cut out the cross too.
Get a life MICON, I'm hardly the only person calling you out on your crap. We need some CM quality, even buying Parker in the summer would have been improvement but basically we need a DM and a creative CM in there or we are going to struggle.
With Cleverly fit I don't think we'd be in this position - not because he is a world-beater but we are a different team with a player operating in that position.
Rooney looked like he had the world on his shoulders tonight.

Only you could put a ******* striker in front of the midfield. Rose-tinted glasses... you bloody well need some glass, any glasses.

Disappointing but we didn't deserve it. We lack the ability to break down defensive set ups. The lack of players willing to take the shot on is worrying. Unlike others I don't think that is entirely down to central midfield weakness but magnified because our 'flair' players wide and up top are just not on form.

1 point from Basel is pretty shocking. Roy Keane speaking a lot of sense.

So you are saying that Rooney, Javier, Welbeck and Berbs aren't good enough to make up the front line on a top side?
Isn't it more to do with the fact that the central midfield is weak and not providing any creativity, the wide players are then forced to compensate for these weaknesses which changes their natural game and therefore the chances aren't coming.
United aren't making the chances they have done in the past and therefore it is not the strikers that are ultimately the problem.

To be honest, I've grown sick and tired of losing Champions League finals recently and at least now I can't suffer that disappointment until 2013 at the soonest.

I agree, but when we get chances we miss them, & we had many chances tonight & a lot of chances in the last several games but no goals & again tonight lots of corners but again nothing.
As for the 2 subs tonight, they would not get in any top European side.

Well no excuses, this was deserved, though the damage was done weeks ago really.
I'd prefer to go straight out altogether like in 2005 (I think) - Europa is worse than coming rock-bottom last.
From runners-up to the Europa league in the space of 7 months.
Good luck to Basel and Benfica.

Do you really think we will make the Champions league next season? Unless we spend millions on players we will be lucky to get a place.

So, we need to sort the midfield in front of the strikers then? You can't honestly judge the whole front-line on ninety minutes and when two of our front four are injured (three if you include Ow... wait, I'll stick with 2).
Agree on the Italian Stallion, ship him out but you are being very harsh on Welbeck, he has really come on this season. Not a top player yet but stick with him.

So I guess United and City will be joint favourites for the Europa Cup. Anyone know where the final is this time?

Stadionul Național in Bucharest, Romania. You've got a good record in Romania this season!
