I just cannot stop listening to the Fame Monster...a superb album with tiptop production. To be honest, there is not much I can find fault with...
She seems to be a true talent that matches how much money is being thrown at her. I realise she is not for everyone, but I'm loving what she is doing at the moment, and look forward to the new album (which is supposedly out at the end of this year)
I have decided to look into her back catalogue and was so pleased to see that she still releases her music as maxi-singles in the US. I thought this format died out ages ago. (It used to be where a single was split across two CD's here in the UK, it would be released as one CD in the US, with sometimes upto 10 tracks on)
Any fans here (or just someone in the know)...are here remixes generic housed up remixes that barely resemble the orginal tune?
Where can I order these maxi cd's from? I cannot find them for anything less than £20 each
Yes - they do seem to do expensive on ebay and the like.
Amazon.com have some still in stock. Poker Face and Love Game are just about £4 + shipping. As are Paparazzi and Telephone (out next Tuesday).
One thing to watch out is that although the Maxi-Singles contain a host of re-mixes there are usually a couple of versions of each song that will be digital only exclusives.
This is a recent remix compilation - Japanese exclusive, but it's insanely expensive - bound to become a collectable though.
She is off her rocker obviously - but a least the music (for it's genre) holds up and the production is fantastic as you say.

I'll have a look at Amazon again for the maxi cd's.
It was the Japanese collection that prompted me to look into the maxi's...I realise that Japanese titles are normally sold for a premium, but the prices for this one are
Your spot on with stating 'for it's genre'...she really has taken the sound and run with it...'Telephone' has so many little production tweaks on it that I just love listening to it with headphones..the video is a rip off of many other films, but a great little movie.
The popjustice forums are in meltdown at the moment discussing Gaga and this video in particular. I think they may be organising some collection to take a hit out on that Justin kid who has potentially stopped Gaga going to Number 1!
Anyway, I'm off to see if I can buy some of the Maxi CD's (takes me back to my collecting days, when the US maxi cd import was a must for any collection)
Just Dance: US 'The Remixes' CD single
Poker Face: US 'The Remixes' CD single
Lovegame: US/EU 'The Remixes' CD single
Paparazzi: US 'The Remixes' CD single
Bad Romance: US 'The Remixes' CD Single
Telephone: US Remix EP
I held off on getting the 'Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)' single as all the available mixes (bar one) are on the other Gaga CD I ordered, which was...
The Gaga Remixes: I managed to find the rather expensive Japanese import for a reasonable price.
Some duplicate remixes...but there may well be some resell value on the Japanese import if I suddenly decide I have made a mistake!
Hopefully, the download only mixes will see some sort of CD release in the future...I don't do downloads!
I haven't heard the Telephone remixes, but I wouldn't let them put you off any remixes. The Eh Eh piano and human beatbox version is a wonderful thing.
The Telephone remixes are awful - Bad Romance had a couple of good ones, still adore the Starsmith remix, absolute synth filth
As for Gaga, whole persona just screams attention whore, but I guess she's one of the few acts who doesn't take herself too seriously. The album isn't THAT good though.
I get the appeal. Local telly interviewed some of the audience prior to one of her shows and it was just the kind of stuff you might've heard from the lips of a Madonna fan 20 years ago. No surprise that a younger generation have latched onto something else along the same lines. The album itself is a bit 50/50 - there's one track in particular (I'm terrible with titles) that might as well be Gwen Stefani for example and more than enough that defines filler, but she does good singles which is what all pop acts should aspire to.
I first heard of her a few years ago when she was playing a festival we were thinking of going to. Then she was playing very generic dance stuff wearing very little clothes. After some investigation I found out she used to play bland piano type stuff wearing classic dresses, very Norah Jones. The woman would've done anything to become famous. It's cynical exploitation with no soul or meaning. She would've kept rebranding herself until it sold or she faded away. She's now combining the clothes off approach with zaniness, wow she's like so random.
The music is absolutely appaling and the videos are watered down male fantasy pornography repackaged for children. I absolutely despise her.

I think she's just trying to do what Madonna did throughout the 80s and 90s. Light pop, together with flapping boobies and camel toes to get the Daily Mail readers huffing.
As for the music itself, it's not bad. Very 'Europop' so far. Basic melodies and arrangements, with good production. I like it. I don't agree that music needs to have a 'meaning' to be enjoyed.

Ha ha! Spotted this thread the other day and it made me chuckle... I wondered how long it would be before someone waded in and made an honest comment on her and the gash music she makes!

.
it's the classic pop music formula that's worked since the 50's. The most surprising thing about her is why no ones not done that old trick for a while.
