Some of these stories are 4 pages long and pack as big a punch as tales 4 times as long.
Yes, some tales were better than others but there was not one I didn't like.
I'd thoroughly recommend this book..go on, you know you want to.
I'll be writing a proper review soon...

Sounds right up my street!
Added it to my Amazon wish-list & will keep an eye on when they get it back in stock..

Just finished the Stephen King & Richard Chizmar novella ''Gwendy's Button Box'...
A delightful return to Castle Rock.
The main issue is that it leaves too many questions unanswered...ideas should of been fleshed out rather than sticking to a shorter format.

It's a flesh eating spider tale, so don't expect anything too highbrow. But if you want a fast, fun read, with some nice set pieces, I'd certainly recommend it.
Gollancz are sending me Skitter (should be here tomorrow) so fingers crossed we get more of the same but with an ending.

Started The Hatching (£2 in The Works). The author does seem very preoccupied with sex.

I only read books when on holiday - got through 3 in the last five days; I'm Travelling Alone, I See You and In The Dark Dark Wood.
First two very good (will definitely be reading the 'sequel' to I'm Travelling Alone but the third one was very meh

Disappointing, rambling nonsense mostly. I do expect it to have gone down well with some of the others at the book club, but I'll be giving it a 2/10.
I'm hoping next month's book ( A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab) is better!
|
Well, A Darker Shade of Magic was significantly better than The Girl in the Road. Not amazing, but a much nicer read. I think it showed that the author had mostly written teen fiction before, but even so I enjoyed it. Apparently the sequels get better.
This month it's Double Star by Robert Heinlein. It doesn't sound that impressive from the cover description, but I'll see how it goes.

Got I'm Travelling alone, didnt mind In The Dark Dark Wood, but curiously did struggle a bit with I See You, perhaps Im reading too many of a similar kind of book.

A movie could be brilliant...they need to trim a lot of the chat and stick to the action and 'scary' stuff.
That ending saved the book from an average review to be honest.

Just received my free copy of Karin Slaughter's new standalone, "The Good Daughter". Looking forward to that as she just gets better & better & is one of the most consistent crime/thriller writers out there.
Currently reading Noah Hawley's "Before the Fall" as I love his TV work (Legion & Fargo). So far it's been very good, with very impressive writing, deep characterisation & an intriguing plot...

Not been impressed with Double Star, it has definitely aged. Quite dull, felt like not much happened through the whole book.
Next months book is Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. Sounds quite interesting from the description.

Have you finished it? I read it recently as it was very prominent in the shop display and although something kept me turning the pages I didn't particularly enjoy the book. It's one of those where I just didn't get what all the fuss was about.
