Have to say I’m mightily annoyed with Sky at the mo. Dire broadband speeds of around 4Mb/s and a box that was freezing on a daily basis…

As I was out of any fixed contract I called them up and they agreed to do me a deal – switch line rental to them and get high speed fibre for same monthly fee. I get a free new router (mine was 6 yrs old!) and an engineer callout got my box replaced…so all sounds good!!!

So….engineer comes out and switches box – all fine. Switch line rental…Just waiting on the fibre/router...which doesn’t come!

I call Sky back, and they say there’s no record on my ‘notes’ on file…and what’s more there’s no fibre in my area anyway! I explain that I wouldn’t have switched my line rental to sky if I hadn’t agreed all this (and wouldn’t you know that did all go through quickly!).

After some further checks there IS fibre in the area, but there’s no spare capacity – so I’m in the same situation as I was originally. The operator agreed to take me off any contract agreements, but with such poor broadband I’m thinking Virgin or BT may be a better option for my area (I’m in Reading, so not exactly out in the styx!)

My new customers discounts (for TV, phone & broadband) end next month. My broadband service has been awful for the last two months. So I'm seriously looking at other options.

Do Virgin still have traffic shaping on their broadband ?

I moved to SKY for TV but still kept the Virgin fibre broadband, I've no idea if it is capped still or not, not really an issue for me. I think for £34 a month, you get a phoneline, BB and a basic TV package (we have ours upstairs in our room) and a TIVO.

The BB is really good so happy to keep it.

Plusnet Fiber Optic service has been excellent.

Just got Sky Go Extra set up on my PS3 and Xbox 360, and i'm pretty impressed with the quality, better than SD IMO although obviously not up to HD standards.

I've got the PS3 connected to my projector with around an 85" screen size and its perfectly watchable.

Well had our letter today. Sky want another £4 a month from us so we are cancelling. Somehow they expect you to pump more money their way despite them having LESS football next season. The thieving ***** can go whistle.

BT and an Openbox it is then.

I think I'm gonna move to BT as well. I can get the equivalent package with double the speed of my fibre for 20 quid a month less than I'm paying now

If you ring them then Im sure they'll drop the price. They keep doing this to see who pays it and who picks up the phone to moan.Majority of people just accept it.

And it's a lot less football as well. They will be losing 90 live CL games in the group stages alone.

I rang in September as I wasn't pepared to pay so much anymore. They offered me nothing off despite being a long standing customer.

I cancelled being assured (from various boards) they'd be in touch to offer something as cancellation approached. They didn't call at all, and my account was duly cancelled.

Can't say I've missed it, and the £60 odd is better in my pocket

I guess they assumed you'd come crawling back. You can't offer everyone a deal, they probably also see how much TV you watched and took a gamble. Besides you need a few people who don't get offered anything to make people more twitchy.

I only say I'll cancel if I'm prepared to go through with it. I'm quite happy to flit between SKY and Virgin, I don't have the premium sky stuff.

Had Free TV&BB for a yr.Cancelled TV and they gave me Free BB and just pay the Line Rental.
Within 28 Days I was getting 50% off TV if you return and a recent email had 60% off TV if you come back.Just cancelled my BB&LR a few days ago as I'll be moving in less than a month.

Email from Sky "25% off your package if you commit to 12 months". Thought oh that'll be nice.

Of course it doesn't mean me - it's generic, and if i took it i would be committed for 12months saving 25%, instead of on a 35% discount with no commitment/leave anytime situation.

Also got the letter about the price rise. My housemates watch the football much more than me, so i don't really keep up - but the letter highlights something like 116 premiership games. Suprised to read earlier in the thread that's 90 games down from before, despite the price increase

Is that right?

Isn't it more the loss of the european football that applies to the decrease in total matches shown?

our entertainment pack has gone up £2 - really annoyed because it seems it only went up last summer, although i could be wrong. i don't know what they're doing to justify an increase of 8% (unless it's to help pay for the football!). going to have to give them a call.

annoying thing is, we only watch 95% bbc/itv etc., with the occasional "sky" programme such as last week tonight (on atlantic) - and dave. i'd switch to a freesat recorder if i could convince the mrs to ditch sky+. (we don't have a terrestrial tv antenna so that's out of the question).

Be cheaper to put up an Aerial.95% of LWT gets posted on the official channel anyway.

Dave has a catchup anyway.
Ever since the analogue TV Freq's got turned off the DTV Freq's had the power turned up so you could try an indoor aerial or loft aerial.
