'Eureka' (Roeg) - best version?

Did a search and couldn't find anything - sorry if I missed it.

So does anyone know which Region currently has the best version of this Nic Roeg classic.

Thanks in advance

Wouldn't it be lovely if Criterion did a job on this like 'Man who fell to earth' or Bad Timing ?

Wouldn't it though!! I'm just going through some of the CC 'Bad Timing' extras as I write. Wonderful stuff.

So I'm here in R1 land where MGM (?) have released it. Just wondering how it holds up to the R2 or any other version. My priority is for picture quality over extras.

Eureka. Is this still the best version of film available.

I have a copy taped from BBC2 from years ago but would love a proper DVD version. I've not seen it in years.

I remember it being a bit muddled but visually very arresting. And I remember Theresa Russell looking magnificent .

I have the MGM version as it is a favourite of mine too.

Not great quality and a very grainy transfer.

There is a second release by Optimum Home Entertainment (link below) which I have been eying up to see if it is any better.

Has anyone double dipped to see if this is still the same transfer?

The whole opening sequence, showing Hackman making his fortune, is some of the best visual cinema I've ever seen (but actually just par for the course for Roeg at this stage in his career, seeing as he was flush with genius up to and including Eureka). Though admittedly, I find the rest of the film quite confusing (the courtroom climax I couldn't make head nor tail of), but still intoxicating, particularly the blowtorch bit and the voodoo orgy.

I have the Optimum Region 2 release and it looks fine, apart from a minor glitch. After Jack is washed away in the river of gold there is a shot of a mountain bathed in a golden glow. On the DVD this shot is in natural colour, not gold.

This is on in HD on MGMHD tonight (21/03) at 10:50pm. They're showing quite a few Hackman films today.

Doesn't look too bad - a few dust specks and scratches.

And the god awful HUGE MGM HD dog.
