Any news on getting Trez on loan, everyone else seems to have left Juve, why hasn't he?
Also, what's happened to Crouching?

Dont get me wrong, Pennant is a decent player, prefer him to SWP actually, but how do we do it? First Crouch, now Pennant, team gets relegated, needs to sell players and we overpay by a few million, would be funny if it was another club, tragic that its ours though. These people behind the scenes call themselves business men, time to step aside and let someone else have a go I think

I get your point but what can you do? If a team won't accept your offer all you can do is go away or bid again?
Also, I'm not the last to put too many players on a pitch - seem to remember a Spanish CL winner trying to do it not so long ago

The England Under-21 international, who joined Birmingham from Arsenal for £3m in April 2005, would join Wales striker Craig Bellamy at Anfield as Benitez looks to invest in young British talent.
But in Pennant, the Liverpool coach would be purchasing one of football's most notorious players.
In 2005 the midfielder become the first footballer to play in the Premiership while wearing an electronic tag. He had served 21 days in jail after being found guilty of drink driving while banned and having no insurance.
Originally Pennant had been banned from driving for 16 months in 2004 after being seen travelling in the wrong lane in Paddington, west London.
Also in 2005 it was reported that Birmingham sent the player home from training after he turned up under the influence of alcohol. And in a seperate incident that year, Pennant was alleged to have become involved in an argument with a man outside a restaurant on the Greek island of Zante, which led to the man punching him.
In 2003 Pennant was sent home from an England Under-21 training camp for breaking a curfew.

What with him and Bellamy it makes you wonder if Rafa has lost his mind!*

I dont admit to knowing exactly how the transfer system works, but you say "that's the offer, take it or leave it", give them a week and if they dont accept move on- in this case they would have caved and probably taken £3.5 - 4m with maybe a bit extra promised based on appearances. Teams are doing this to us all the time now because it keeps happening.

Not really. We damn then if they do and damn them if they don't. How many times on here have we been peeved at losing out a decent player for refusing to budge?
That being said I agree I think he is overpriced for tat money and I guess we were forced by no go in all our other targets in this area.

Well as Juve have had their points deduction reduced and are appealing again they will probably want to hand onto their players now.

I would have thought they'd loan someone like him out for 1 season?

Nah they need to hammer seria B to overcome that points deficit and get promoted.
Ofcourse thats all pending another appeal.
I'd assume many of their players have getout clauses on relegation tho.

I think Pennant would be a good signing and hopefully another striker to follow. Look at what Rafa has brought us in the last 2 seasons and yet people continue to moan and moan. Crouch proved to be a very good signing and anyone saying to the contrary obviously didn't go to any games last season. If we backed off every player we thought may be overpriced, then we would get no-one. Rafa at least seems to have a price limit in his head for each player, hence we do not have Alves, Simao etc.

Rafa wanted Alves instead he's got his 2nd choice Pennant,a solid but hardly top class performer with a colourful history to say the least.Pity we couldn't push the boat out a bit and get rafa's first choice

After my *exclusive* pictures last week of the 3 Liverpool kits, I can now exclusively reveal the European kit for the coming campaign

Blame Rafa - he's the man who has been saying he refuses to pay mega, mega fees when its not required. He might push the boat out for a £5m signing but £10m+ and he wants to be 150% sure which is admirable to me.

I think that old model of relegated teams selling their best players for peanuts is over. They have their Parachute Payments which means they don't have to sell anyone they don't want to.

£4m for Pennant isn't peanuts, its the going rate.
I think most people think that Pennant is a good signing, just like Crouch was a good signing last season, but we paid more than we needed for both, thats my only complaint. If we had loads of transfer funds I wouldnt be complaining, but we appear to be very limited compared to the rest of the top 6 clubs.

On Pennant ... can I just remind everyone that this is just pure press speculation at the moment which has not been confirmed by either club.
In fact Brimingham have denied it !!!

But reports are that it paves the way for us to buy Kuyt. I'd rather spend the cash on one player that is of Liverpool quality (or the quality we need to improve) rather than 2 who might or might not be good enough....
