Thats all opinion though, how do you know Chelsea dont rate Duff much higher than your existing left players but just dont consider you rivals full stop. I consider Duff to be better than any left sided player you currently have, maybe Maureen thinks the same.

See how silly it is getting into this whole rivals/non rivals, big club small club thing is.

And how many games have you seen of Gonzalez and Aurellio ??

Clearly Rafa feels Duff would add nothing to Liverpool's squad, maybe Maureen thinks the same

and you've seen plenty of Gonzalez to form that opinion if chelski don't consider the side that's knocked them out of the CL & FA CUP in consecutive seasons and closed a 37 point gap to just 9 in one season to be rivals then more fool them but truth be told speak to rational chelski fans like lou and ask him does he consider us to be a threat i also don't know where you are getting this big club/small club thing from,no-one said newcastle weren't a big club.they most certainly are just in terms of success a chronically unsuccessful one.

Recipie for getting rid of player no longer wanted.

Follow these 10 steps to get rid!

1. Decide on injury prone high salary non essential player.

2. Offer him to Liverpool first.

3. Liverpool consider offer.

4. Liverpool can't or are not willing to afford said player.

5. Liverpool say thanks but no thanks.

6. Contact Newcastle, with offer.

7. Shepherd under pressure as usual, thinks big name signing will keep the fans off my back.

8. 20 000 fans show up and greet player as the 2nd coming, who makes happy noises about following his heart.

9. Liverpool/Newcastle fans argue on internet forums for a couple of weeks.

10. Injury prone player get's injured and LFC fans stop arguing and think phew. Newcastle fans start slagging off Shepherd about building a better squad.

Repeat

Thing that bothers me the most about the whole thing is, why do Newcastle have more money than us?

in the independent this morning they were reporting that since abramovich has come along they have mad a loss of £55m on players bought then sold and they are willing to let SWP go for £10m.

To be honest I don't see why they wouldn't sell him to us they think they are unbeaten and Maureen didn't consider SWP good enough to play him so surely he wouldn't think twice about off loading to us?

But as usual when there is no news from LFC we all start talking ****** about non existant transfers

We play more games, we play in the champions league, we are on TV more and we have many more supporters worldwide. According to the last money list we generate about £60m more a year than them so still dont understand.

this is a reply I got in the NewC thread when I asked the same question a couple of seasons back:

Quote:
They have a large overdraft - and don't forget, Real were daft enough to spunk 13.5 million on Woodgate. And fat fred is rich, he's creamed money from the mags for many years now It's not his money he spends though...
Plus they took out a pretty decent insurance policy on Owen so they are not actually paying anything towards his wages while he is not playing. The FA and the insurance company are paying.

Plus the 55,000 seats, all of the money from their home games goes straight into their coffers.

If Liverpool could get a 60,000 plus stadium we could easily fill it (I would get a season ticket) and I'm sure the money would roll in.

To be honest the club needs a proper PR company to maximise the potential of our fanbase and to expand it. Whoever does it at the moment hasn't got a clue.

I want Pennant. I think he'd do a great job. Imagine this line-up:

Reina

Finnan Carra/Paletta Hyppia/Agger Aurelio/Riise

Momo Alonso

Pennant Steg Gonzalez

Fowler Bellamy

Tell me that is not a fantastic side? Swap your favoured strikers in if you like and then try and say its not a great side. Sure, it could improve but considering money and availability etc I think its awesome.

think ds80q has overdosed on championship manager. you could probably name 5-6 different formations and on paper it'd look great. the england team looks awesome on paper that 12 player line up would win everything definitely

According to Elisha Scott on the YNWA forums Pennant is a done deal and will be signing in the next couple of days.

Shame that pretty much puts to bed any deal for Alves - who'd I'd have loved to have seen at Anfield.

Not 100% on Pennant - always seems to be one of those players who shows lots of nice flicks but very little end product. He definately has the talent though so hopefully Rafa can get some consistency out of him....

EDIT...... on the beeb now as well .......£6.2m!!!! seems a bit OTT! Can't leave much in the kitty for another striker even if we offload some more of the deadwood

birmingham must have brilliant negotiators-despite being relegated they've coined 5.5 million for heskey & 6.2 million for pennant unbelievable

See what I did there? Oh well, would have been great just not legal. Take away one striker or mid and its still great

I'll take Pennant, surely paves the way for another striker to be signed. If we had signed Alves, that would have pretty much been the end of any further big signings.
