According to Koptalk, we've been given permission to speak to Damien Duff...

I'd agree on that, I'm not sure Alves is the solution either as we have 2 right backs that can play wing already (although Kronkamp looks to be going.) Gerrard does as job there as does Garcia but neither of them are best in that position and we've even lost Ciise in that role.

Hes quite capable of playing right wing, as he did for Chelsea for most of the 2004/05 season

I'm sure he did - but the Mirror was saying his natural position is on the left.
Also, whilst I can see why Chelsea would let him go ... I can't see Chelsea selling him to us - a player who would fill the key position we are missing to arguably mount a challenge for the title.
Good all be "agent/LFC" talk, to give Sevilla a kick up the arse as it seems Rafa is still very keen on Alves.

Maureen has said he can go if the price is right and Spurs/Toon are already in the hunt so there might well be truth in it.

Why do players go to newcastle when they done precisely nothing since the 1955 FA Cup final or whenever it was?

If Kraptalk is correct ... that may well be because a better team hadn't come in for him.
Think about, who would you play for ?? A team who have a lot of work to do still to get into the UEFA Cup next season or a team who are pretty much assured of a Top Seed place in the CL ??
Thinking about it ... an "out of position" Duff is preferable, for me, to Pennant

agreed Adam, i'd have Duff over Pennant.
Duff frequently swapped sides with Robben, just like Stevie and Harry did last year. So i dont think it'll be a problem for Duff to settle in the team...

Agreed, would definitely rather Duff than Pennant. Im not entirely convinced by Alves either, so i think id probably go for Duff all round.

Duff's a good player but his injury record would be a concern

Too right, it's last chance saloon for Fowler, every minute he gets on the pitch is vital to him. He'll never ever get another chance to do the business which means with his unquestionable natural talent, we have a serious goal threat in our squad.

Duff plays right wing very frequently, probably played more there than left side for Chelsea of late, would definately be my prefered choice out of everyone we have been seriously linked with.

Bit worrying that they gave Fowler no. 9, it implies we are not going after a top-class striker because they would have held that number aside. Disgrace if we dont get one.
