im unsure tbh.. i've never really thought that Trezeguet was good enough to warrant the hype. by that i mean he hasnt ever shown to be in the top tier of European based strikers.
if we got him, i dont see him commanding a regular place over Robbie, Crouch or Bellamy.. and if he isnt guaranteed a place would he come to us?

His hype was huge but he hasn't lived up to the billing IMO over the past couple of years

Didn't I read somewhere he scored 29 goals last season? Or am I imagining it?

Trezeguet for £5-7m makes more sense than £10-12m for Kuyt

A loan offer for a couple of seasons would be better in my opinion. If he works out we will get him in the last of his productive years, if he turns out to be **** we can just dump him back on Juve. I thought he wanted to move to Lyon though?
According to the BBC:
Quote:
TRANSFER RUMOURS
Chelsea
Alessandro Nesta (Milan), Fabio Cannavaro, Pavel Nedved, Gianluca Zambrotta (all Juve)
Manchester United
Patrick Vieira, Pavel Nedved (both Juve), Gennaro Gattuso (Milan), Luca Toni (Fiorentina)
Liverpool
Mauro Camoranesi, David Trezeguet (both Juve)
Arsenal
Gianluca Buffon, Lilian Thuram, Patrick Vieira, David Trezeguet (all Juve), Filippo Inzaghi (Milan)
Tottenham
Lilian Thuram (Juve), Filippo Inzaghi (Milan)
|
If Chelsea or ManU get the players they are linked with they will have some midfield and strike force next season.
Arsenal have apparently agreed a £280m loan based on future ticket sales so they could become a big player in this transfer window.

You seriously think Fowler would be ahead of Trezeguet if we got him??? No chance.
I would still prefer we went for Luca Toni, but Trezeguet would be decent too, he is a goalscorer.

yes i do.. Fowlers finishing is better than Trezeguets, if his fitness is up to scratch then i would play him every time.. especially since he is proven in the league and Trezeguet isnt.
but we are needing a fourth striker as it looks like Pongelle isnt going to get a run of games. so we have Crouch, Fowler and Bellamy which is pretty good.

It would be unfair to judge trousers-gay on his performances in a french shirt alone.
If you not then fair enough.

Maybe 6-7 years ago Fowlers finishing was better, but not now, the same goes for his "proven" goalscorer status and thats a big "if" regarding his fitness. Trezeguet IS a proven goalscorer in a tough league, scoring over 30 goals, and you are crazy if you think he would be our 4th striker if he came, he would be no. 1.
Fowler is 3rd choice striker as it stands now, I guarantee it.

That BBC Transfers list is dodgy, Gattuso publicly said before the trial verdict he would stay at Milan no matter what happened.

And Winger went on record this morning to say that Arsenal weren't interested in any Juve players because of their wages.

The BBC "gossip" page is just a round up of all the paper back pages - no more, no less.
In fact, a few of the BBC Website exclusives recently - the "BBC Sport is led to believe" type ones - are also just rehashes of paper 'exclusives'

Got to agree.
There is no way, IMO, that Fowler is first choice striker this season. And if Rafa is really in the market for another one, it won't be one who will be behind Crouch, Bellamy and Fowler in the pecking order.

and you'd be amazed how many paper 'transfer gossip' stories are lifted straight from fan forums.

So Fowler wasnt looking sharp at the end of last year when he had his fitness back? he's only 30 remember and even with the out of shape player that was at Leeds and Man City he still had almost one every other game.
Trezeguets league scoring record last season (even with league champions) was great. even the three before that he scored 1 in 2..
02-03 Juventus Turin 9 Goals, 17 Games
03-04 Juventus Turin 16 Goals, 25 Games
04-05 Juventus Turin 9 Goals, 18 Games
05-06 Juventus Turin 23 Goals, 32 Games
I was going on how he performed when i've seen him, but as you say you cant argue with his record in serie a.
besides i didnt say fourth choice.. i meant he would be in rotation, just like rafa did with the strikers last year.

He looked okay, definately clever business keeping him around rather than spending £4-5m on someone else, but not good enough to command a regular 1st team place. If we are going to get above Utd and Chelski we need better strikers, we still dont have a guaranteed goalscorer in my opinion - 20 goals a season in the league. Bellamy and Crouch are both very good no. 2 strikers, but we need a top quality striker to play with them if we are to make a challenge. We are competing against Chelsea who have Shevchenko with Ballack , Arsenal who have Henry and United who have Rooney plus probably Torres as well - Fowler isnt even close to being in the same league as those guys.

Torres is over-rated. He needs as many chances as Andy Cole needed. That isn't to say he wouldn't do it here - he will, but he won't come and be the best. Shevy is good but aint really done it for two seasons. look at his European record and I think he scored at most 1 goal away from the San Siro in two years? Suggests he won't do it here, and his WC etc. may just prove he's going over the top.
Probably not first choice but that will be down to fitness etc. and Rafa not seeing the God that is Fowler.
As for us getting another striker clearly again (as AdamBrunt said) we will be getting the main man or no-one. Our current strikeforce would not be considred world-class these days (Fowler not been around since 2001, bellamy is bellamy, crouch is crouch and Pongo is still not *quite there*).
I am not a Trezeguet fan, nor a bellamy one, but if Rafa were to get them and only them I'd be happier than if we were to get kuyt and whoever else (kuyt just hasn't performed at levels above the Eredivisie so would be a risk at 10M ala Kezman). Trust in Rafa!

I think the rotation was more forced upon him last season than out of choice.
I think Fowler is still a good player but have got to agree with others here saying he isnt and shouldnt be our main striker next year.
Of all our strikers I have to say Cisse looked the best....even when played out of position. Now you can say Cisse was a joke or whatever you want but then I rate our other strikers below him. Fowler looked handy towards the end of the season but he's nothing like he was or the kind of regular goalscorer Owen was. That's what everyone on this thread is crying out for.
Bellamy I think will be a good goalscorer for us next season. I'm not his biggest fan but if he can stick goals in the back of the net then people, including myself, will overlook his past. Pongolle looks useful at times and I'll be glad to see him back.
