Name This 80s US Sitcom

OK, sorry for another one of these but it's been bugging me.

US sitcom, set in a big posh house, sort of the US equivalent of a stately home. It was shown on BBC 2 at around 6pm, and it would have been shown around 1988.

The theme tune contained the lyrics, "It's A Grand Life".

Anyone?

Fresh Prince is the only BBC2 at 6pm in the 80's sitcom that matches a stately home, but the lyrics don't match:

Quote:
Now this is the story all about how,
My life got flipped, turned upside down,
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there,
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air.

In West Philadelfia born and raised,
On the playground where I spent most of my days,
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool,
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school,
When a couple of guys said "we're up in no good",
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood,
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared,
And said "you're moving with your aunt and uncle in Bel-Air".

I begged and pleaded with her the other day,
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way,
She gave me a kissin' and she gave me my ticket,
I put my walkman on and said I might as well kick it,

First class, yo this is bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass,
Is this what the people of Bel-Air livin' like,
Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the,
Licensplate said "Fresh" and had a dice in the mirror,
If anything I could say that this cab was rare,
But I thought now forget it, yo home to Bel-Air,

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight,
And I yelled to the cabby "Yo, home smell you later",
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there,
To settle my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.
Not BBC2 but ITV was Diff'rent Strokes but that was 70's and again no line:

Quote:
Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Have a look here and see if any of the songs match.

No, none of those, I was wondering how it could have possibly suggested Fresh Prince, but I guess it was too ambiguous.

Basically it was set in the posh house and it kind of centred on the relationship between the butlers and other house staff and the posh house owners.

Definitely not Fresh Prince or Differn't Strokes. I don't think it lasted very long, but this was back in the days of four channel telly and was a welcome alternative to the six o'clock news when I was a kid.

The reason I can remember the song was that we did a parody of it for a primary school play, wittily altering "It's a grand life" to "It's a bland life". My God, we thought we were ace.

Marblehead Manor? I think it was shown on C4 though.

I don't recall that the Benson theme tune had lyrics.

PS Oops, seems it was on C4 in 1989, but pretty close.

I didn't watch it, but I still have a trailer for it because it was on before something I have on an old videotape.

A pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards and a post-Avengers Linda Thorson were in it I think.
