De Palma referenced Eisenstein in numerous interviews and articles around the time of the film's release. However, Eisenstein never - to my knowledge - made any kind of reference to how much his scene owed to D.W.Griffith.

Of course, the scene owes as much to Leone and Peckinpah as it does to Eisenstein.

With respect to Robert Shaw's speech in Jaws - next time you watch it, keep a eye on Richard Dreyfuss in the background. Fascinating to look at, and I believe some of the speech was ad lib'd...

I am very surpised that no one has mentioned what many reviewers have long considered a masterpiece of cinematographic impact - Arnold Schwarznegger's "I'll be Back" sequence with its massacre at the Police Station in the original "The Terminator". That would certainly be high on my list.

Well, people have quoted "Ran" (1985) and "Rules of the Game" (1998). Moreover, was not the "classic-modern" cutoff 20 years before it was upgraded to 25?

I'm assuming that the poster was referring to Renoir's Rules of the Game (1939) which features a superb hunting scene and not Jorg Fockele's 'masterpiece' from 1998.

BTW apols for the off forum 'Ran' scene...but it IS brilliant.

You are the OP! If you wanted people to mention The Terminator then you should have posted this in the 'Modern' forum or maybe even mentioned it yourself, before acting "very surprised" that people had actually followed the 'Classic' forum rules.
