Touching the Void

Any ideas if and when this will be released on DVD or where I might find out?

You do realise that it's a TV style docu-drama combining interviews and reconstructions (i.e. nothing at all like 'Alive')?

I haven't seen the film, although I do still intend to.

However, I remember reading the story in a Chris Bonnington book and remember it to be a story of extreme bravery and strength of human spirit.

It doesn't sound like Alive at all!

It's a fantastic docu-film, I'd definitely recommend renting/buying if you haven't seen it in the cinema (still playing some screens here in Belfast, btw)

Caught it at this at the cinema the other week, and it is an excellent documentary. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Another of those hugely over-rated films, a conspiracy to make us think that British films are still best! It's good but nowt special.

Well it was watchable but only cos I painted breasts on my inner eyelids.

How is this in the top 10 chart at Blockbuster, I wasnt expecting Vertical Limit or Alive by any means but I just got bored by the way it was done, defo a documentary and NOT a film.

It is a film, a documentary film. What it isn't is fictional.

I suppose they could have taken a few liberties and had Joe carrying a rucksack with Nitro in it and sprinting about at high altitude. I expect you would have preferred that.

No not really. Hey its just my opinion and the fact that I dont really like stuff made like that leads me to have that opinion.

I just dont think it should be for rent at blocky as a film in the charts. It aint no film in my opinion and yes I know we can argue here all day if it is or aint but thats just my opinion.

Eh?

So in your view films such as Bowling for Columbine also shouldn't be in Blockbuster's charts?

No not saying that. I dont like films done in the style of Void so just didnt like it, either be a film or a doc. Theres people on here who loved it so its funny how people can have different opinions on the same film.

The main reason was there was a heck of a lot more interviews and stuff then i thought or ha dbeen told by staff there would be.

Brave man though to make it down in that state I have to say that.

It sounds more appealing to me. The fact is that big budget action films are more popular than documentaries, and I would bet money that a lot of Blockbuster's customers have returned 'Touching the Void' and complained that it is a doc. I was in there last night and the cases have little stickers on warning people it is a documentary. Just like all subtitled films also have similar 'warnings', so us plebs know what we are getting and leave the art-house films for the snobs.
