Damn right

UFC 50 (probable)

Tito Ortiz vs Patrick Cote
Matt Hughes vs Georges St. Pierre (should be Verissmo vs St Pierre, considering he clearly beat Hughes at UFC 48 regardless of the judges decision)
Renato Verissimo vs Frank Trigg
Evan Tanner vs Robbie Lawler
Rich Franklin vs Jorge Rivera
Ivan Salaverry vs Tony Fryklund
(insert unknown fighter) vs Marvin Eastman

...doesn't even come close to

Pride 28

Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Josh "Babyface Assassin" Barnett
Dan Henderson vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura
Dan Bobish vs Mark Hunt
Heath Herring vs Hirotaka Yokoi
....with possibly more fights added.

...will still watch both though

Useless trivia of the week. The female interviewer is the daughter of Casey Kasem (voice of Shaggy from Scooby Doo).

I watched both UFC 50 and Pride 28 this week. At the momentit's like comparing Premiership football with the Conference. UFC has no matches announced for its next February show, although they want Belfort vs Ortiz (who both have been convincingly beaten by Couture this year) or Ken Shamrock vs Tank Abbott. They don't want to put both on the show, due to the cost. They seem to be running out of fresh matches that can draw as main events.

Pride on the other hand already has three money matches. They are planning to set up Wanderlei Silva vs Mirko Cro Cop for a rematch, and have Fedor vs Nogueira for the New Years Eve show. On top of that, the big one is Hidehiko Yoshida vs Rulon Gardner (two Olympic gold medalists), which could be as big as Bob Sapp vs Akebono.

They need to seriously rethink the Bushido shows, though. They come across as second-rate (which, I guess, is what they are).

It's a shame that two of the fights on the Pride show ended with freak injuries (ironically, both injuries were identical). But at least it creates two further rematches for the future.

Actually, besides the main event which was superb, I was very disappointed with Pride 28. The undercard fights turned out to be either very one-sided or ended in a freak injury. On the other hand, UFC 50 was a weak card, but all the fights were competitive and had good endings.

I was disappointed by both shows. But Pride has more matches that (on paper) should do good business. The problem with UFC is that while some of the undercard fighters may be talented, none of them are actually going to draw any money as things stand.

You probably are right that the undercard on UFC had more competitive matches than Pride. At the end of the day, though, its the main event that draws the money. Pride had Silva vs Jackson and Cro Cop vs Barnett (regardless of the outcome). UFC had nothing to attract the casual fan.

Slight spoilers

I would really like to see Tito vs Vitor at UFC 51; I like Shamrock, but a fight against Tank would be pointless, it would be over in about 30 secs- why does Tank cost so much anyway? I had also heard talk of Arlovski vs Sylvia for the interim heavyweight title at UFC 51.
The UFC needs to bring in some new talent and promote the fighters they have much better - they are very poor at the later, they have a lot of talent outside of the LHW division, but they dont tell anyone.

The K1 show on the same night (with Royce Gracie vs Akebono freakshow) is going to get slaughtered in the tv ratings. Pride have at least 3 matches that could headline any MMA show

PRIDE NYE show does indeed look awesome plus its gonna be broadcast on US PPV on Jan 2nd so we can listen to Bas and Mauro instead of the crazy Japanese.

Im not all that big on Silva Saku 4. So much for Wanderlei supposedly taking on a heavy on this show. I would like to have seen Kharitonov on this card but i've yet to see his name thrown out there.

Henderson vs Kondo it a potential fight of the night candidate. Im looking forward to Crocop vs Randleman 2 too especially if the monster can pull it out of the bag again, i can't stand Crocop the arrogant B. ~Oh and good to see Jens Pulver back on the big show, he's signed a 4 fight contract too so we'll see him at Bushido throughout 2005.

UFC 51 - Feb 5th

Tito Ortiz vs Vitor Belfort

Andrei Arlovski vs Tim Sylvia - Interim HW title

Evan Tanner vs Rich Franklin - MW Title

David Loiseau vs Joseph Riggs

Robbie Lawler vs Phil Baroni

Justin Eilers vs Paul Buentello

Mike Kyle vs James Irvin

Nick Diaz vs ???

That should be an fantastic card if all those fights come off. I think Zuffa will want to make an impression as their reality tv show starts in Jan on Spike TV.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that MMA is shown every (i think) saturday night on eurosport.

The show is called "fight club" and the last couple of shows have focussed on the K1 final 2004.

He has one fight left on his contract so they have to use him, if he loses he probably wont get another, maybe a 1 fight deal against Ken Shamrock. It should be an entertaining fight though as neither can afford to lose again.

Both UFC and Pride have good cards so looking forward to seeing a lot of the fights, Fedor Vs Nog especially.

Have only seen this a couple of times, but it was just strict kickboxing/Muay Thai (with no grappling) which I am not really interested in, does it also have true MMA fights like those in Pride/UFC?

No, I can understand that. I just wished they'd start pushing someone else on top, and maybe put Ortiz further down against an up-and-coming talent. If he beats Belfort (which I don't think he will, but anything can happen), and then can't agree a new deal, they'll be in an even weaker spot.

Not that they have a great deal of big name talent to choose from these days.
