Fawlty Towers
Does anyone know what is the difference between the two single disks out next week (one for each of series 1 & 2) and the box set out in a months time. Various sites imply this has 3 disks so do you get more extra features ? Only other reason to wait is its £5 less than buying them separately.

the 3rd disc in the 'boxset' is what is on the 2nd disc from Series 1 and 2 put together onto 1 disc.

As far as I can see, the box set packages the material rather more efficiently, in that all the extras are contained on just one disc.
And it's also cheaper!

Looks like I'm just in time to save this thread from page 2
Anyway is there any point in buying the R2 Fawlty Box set, which is out next month, instead of the R1 which is available now?? I seem to remember a discussion on this matter months ago and I think the general feeling was R2 was going to be better, but I can't remember why..... I don't really care about PAL/ NTSC picture differences (IMHO the R1 Blackadder picture was better then the R2 alternative) unless there is a major difference in picture quality (ie. one been restored, the other been exposed to sunlight for 6 hours everyday) I mean differences in extras, edits, etc.
Can anybody remind me?
I prefer my DVDs in boxsets if possible so I've resisted buying the singles discs (was hard, until I saw Dougal's face on the new Father Ted DVD release, which was quickly in my hands in the queue for the cashier) so the question is just which region.....

People on the DVD & Movie Forum seem to have been posting all manner of hiccups and problems in the individual R2 discs, so on the assumption that the box is simply going to be more copies of the same mass-produced discs, it might be aa better bet to place an order for the even-cheaper R4 box, out on the same day!
That said, several people also reported no problems with the R2s, so...

Now that people have the discs in their hands both sides of the Atlantic, it would be great if a R1/R2 comparison could be done. Although I think the two sets have a different configuration of the content/extras, I'm wondering if they bother add up to exactly the same thing......?

So, do the R1 and R2 box-sets have the same extras?
Anyone received them?
Does the R2 release include English subtitles?
Thanks...

I'm rather confused about this 2 disc or 3 discs business.
I got my full series this morning from Tesco.com (VAT free offer) and it came in 2 double Amarays ie 4 discs in all. The covers list all the extras I see elsewhere too.
Is there really a different release in the UK?
