As I've just been reminded, there have been rumours of a Warners Hitchcock box set in (at least) R1 this year; I think the titles hitch_fan posted may be it.

From the 22/4/03 Live Chat with Warners Brothers on the Home Theater Forum (with reference to US releases):
Quote:
Hello -- any plans for other Hitchcock films such as Suspicion, Wrong Man, Stage Fright and Foreign Correspondant
Warner: Yes, we plan a BIG Hitchcock collection for '04.

Hitch_fan, is that Dutch announcement about the 5 Warner Brothers releases online, and if so, could you please provide a link?

The info comes from a list from a Dutch retailer that detailed titles coming in 2004 from all studios, not only Warner. The list was posted on a dutch forum late last year. So it's not an official announcement (and I guess I should have said a strong rumour indicates that ... ) but the retailer gets its info from the studios and so far all the titles from the list for the early months of the year have been released or have been officially announced so it seems very reliable.
Btw, I hope that, apart from the titles I mentioned (no surprises there really, apart from the 2-disc SE for Strangers On A Train), the big Hitchcock collection Warner mentioned in its 2003 HTF chat, will also feature Foreign Correspondent, Suspicion, and Mr & Mrs Smith. These are all RKO titles if I'm not mistaken and Warner has the rights on most of the RKO catalogue for R1 (whereas Universal holds the rights for the UK and Holland).
Anyway, like John said, I guess we'll soon know if that upcoming Waner collection is going to be big or BIG after the upcoming Warner chat on HTF.

Thanks for the links folks. Does anybody have any knowledge of the release of The Lodger that's due in the UK on 22/03/04, or on the 'Waterfall' label that is issuing it?

I'm sure there was a mention on the recent HTF chat with Criterion that they have a Hitchcock title in the works. They didn't say which one though ......

I've emailed Criterion, and got a reply saying that they've not got any new Hitch DVDs in the pipeline
The new HTF chat simply mentioned "7 new to DVD titles are coming later this year", so that backs up Hitch_Fan's list of 8 titles as "Strangers on a Train" has been released before.
I've not seen any further details of the new Lodger disc, but if you're after the film then it's worth getting the excellent Alfred Hitchcock - The Early Years German box set

This is from the HTF Criterion chat transcript:
Hello ,thanks for coming,,just a quick 2 Qs,First did Wenders do a commentary for Paris,TX,,second did anyone do a commentary for the upcoming Hitchcock, and if you can let us know which Hitch it will be,that would rock.
Hey Dave, glad I could be here. I don't know the asnwer to the Wenders question. Hopefully they'll be a new Hitchcock in the next year, but I can't say which one.

Maybe he was just plain wrong in the chat, maybe Criterion just want to keep it quiet, who knows? But you're right - weird!

Just a quick heads up.
Sky Cinema are showing 3 Hitch films every Saturday in April.
The link is here that lists the first 3:
http://search.sky.com/search/skycom/...skycom&x=0&y=0
& it also mentions some other Hitch films/docs on other sat/cable chanels.

Cheers for that!
It'll be interesting to see what the quality of "The Lodger" is like, and also if they use the tinted print of the film

From here:

As mentioned, the Warner Bros. chat at the Home Theater Forum was most heartening for classic fans...the 2004 highlights of most immediate interest include:
a Hitchcock 7-film box set (most likely titles are Dial M for Murder, Foreign Correspondent, I Confess, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Stage Fright, Suspicion, and The Wrong Man);
|
edit - oops, realised that it's suspected titles (that have been mentioned before) rather than confirmed titles. Oh well, hopefully there will be a proper announcement soon !

Another heads up...
Film Four are showing the 1934 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much on Tuesday 20th April at 04:35 - that's very early morning! (repeated at 05:35 on Film Four +1)
Thanks to TiVo for spotting it
TiVo also reports the following Hitch films coming up...
Pyscho - 23rd April 00:00 - ITV1 (London at least)
Shadow of A Doubt - 30th April 00:40 - ITV1 (London at least)
Also Rebecca is on BBC2 right now, but it's most the way through.

Just a quick point out to the fact that at least a couple of the Korean R3 versions appear to be bloomin' cheap at www.koreandvds.com. My experiences with this companuy have been very good in the past !
Examples :
Notorious - $5 - appears to be a Criterion port
The Birds - $5 - appears to be the OAR version

It would be a rights nightmare as the films are owned by so many different companies.

Hm, I'm sure they did a DVD version, but can't find it now!
Anyways.... I'm sure you would be better off buying individually to get the best presentation as there are lots of variations in releases
