If you hammer them out flat they take up a lot less space.

Is anyone still bothering with steelbooks? I'm guessing as it's over a year since anyone has posted I'm guessing not
Zavvi seem to be reissuing the same old stuff, which I guess is the distributors trying to shift old discs. New releases are often overpriced, Blair Witch for example was £20 but the amaray could be had for £13.
The hardest to swallow was the Independence Day remaster, which was £15.99 in a steelbook but £4.99 on release when bought with something else in HMV!
This coupled with the fact that whenever I buy ones that sell out I seem to get dented copies (Fright Night and Suicide Squad are recent examples) that can't be replaced, I'm wondering why I bother.

I still buy the odd one but not as much as before. You have to resist picking up steels just because they look nice or as "upgrades" to the Amaray versions.
I did get three this month, which is unusual: the new Eureka! Metropolis and Dr Mabuse, and Heat. None of these were upgrades!
I also sold some titles last year; most sold for less than I paid, with the notable exceptions of two Ghibli ones - one went for £30 and Totoro for £50
If they'd done the Ghiblis in a different way I could've ended up buying them all, but the standard releases in their slipcases look great lined up on the shelf anyway

At one point about 18 months ago, I had around 200 steelbooks. I now have around 20. Zavvi totally oversaturated the market, releasing any old ****.
I very rarely made profits on steelbooks I sold. The only two I remember were Zombie Flesh Eaters and Big Trouble in Little China, one of which I didn't even get any feedback for (not that I'm bitter ).
Last one I got was Heat, and I want to get rid as soon as and just buy the amaray instead. Not a great improvement on the last release.

I sold some as I replaced them with 3D versions or better discs but the only ones I made money on were Captain America, Thor and Army of Darkness. All the others I got less than I originally paid, so I guess I broke even
Mad Max Black and Chrome is on the way but the only reason I didn't cancel is because it appears to be the only release at the moment.
That just leaves me with Rogue One pre-ordered but past Star Wars steels haven't exactly had amazing artwork so for £25 I'll probably end up cancelling.

I certainly still buy them but I'm quite selective now. It completely comes down to how much I like the cover art, and I generally won't pay much more than £15.

I gave up when they started releasing any old crap in a steelbook for £10+ more than the standard version. I decided I had better things to spend my money on.

I buy them occassionally but only if it's a film I like and I like the artwork as I buy them to keep not sell on, and unless it's a film I particulary want I wait till its under a tenner.

Blu-ray steelbook thread #2
Yes very nice but stupidly expensive, I ‘member when HMV sold reasonably priced steelbooks.

They still do (I very recently got Atomic Blonde for £17.99 from them). The exception here is that this is a 4K release.
