Gloomhaven has been on my list of games to play for years now, and it took a pandemic for me to finally get going!
I've a great friend who lives about 2 hours away, and if he'd been round the corner, we almost certainly would've rinsed the Gloomhaven campaign already. However, with the introduction of lockdown, he and I have been playing through using Tabletop Simulator with a weekly Wednesday night session of 2-3 hours.
We are probably 10 sessions in, and quite a bit has opened up - the first scenario took is 3 attempts to finally get some of the combos going, but what a hoot we've had.
I randomly chose my starting character, the Scoundrel and my mate is a Cragheart - it's led to some great City / Road experiences already and the story is really starting to pick up the pace.
Knowing that I'd never get the rest of the family to the table for Gloomhaven, I'm really excited about the August-released
Jaws of the Lion standalone campaign. With quick setup / tear-down (the scenario maps are all in the ringbound book) but the full gloomhaven experience in terms of player cards / progression, I think this is much more likely to hit the table for me, my wife and my son.
