Betting on the Oscars?

Just wondered if anyones got experience of Oscar betting, something I've always been tempted by, but the last time I had a dead cert it was Saving Private Ryan for best picture!

Now just seen Dunkirk and thought if I bet this far in advance it should improve my odds, but looking at the fact its only 4 to 1 it obviously doesn't work that way.

ALso when looking into it came cross a thing called bet matching, alas it looks like it is not suited to the Oscars? I don't follow any sport. The idea is you bet on both sides of a game with two different companies and because of the free bet incentives you are always a winner!

Free bet incentives all seem to be for more free bets. Not sure it'd work as pretty much anything could win, especially with six months left. People will have probably forgotten it when it comes out and some musical will win.

4/1 is pretty good though

Matched betting is better suited to sports, especially big tournaments. There's nothing stopping you placing a bet on Dunkirk now and laying that bet at a betting exchange like Betfair but as you've said it's still a way off and you're unlikely to see a massive return other than possibly a free bet.

Is this not the perfect chance to place an accumulator given the fact you can often predict a lot of the winners and combine them with a few of the less-certain winners to possibly take home a nice wedge for small outlay?

Assuming those outsiders come home obviously.... But still more predictable and better odds than the gee gees?

Mark Kermode tells the story of his Oscars bet years ago where he got a modest sum back after correctly predicting every single Oscar. His friend said why didn't you put on as an accumulator? "What's an accumulator?", was his reply.

Realised it would've been Ł1000s, and hasn't bet since!

I thought Mark Kermode was against betting on religious grounds, didn't know that explanation but it explains a lot.
