Lightroom Classic CC v7.2 | February 2018

New update out today, promising more performance enhancements. My top performance tips would be:

- use your SSD drive for all LR tasks (photos being worked on, cache, previews). Every few months, I archive across to my data 2TB drive.
- enable 'Smart Previews' - this used to only work in conjunction with external drives, but now works for everything. Should be enabled by default, imo.

A headsup about v7.1 - the 'Auto' exposure setting now works much better than it ever did (although pulls back too many highlights from the smallest of areas, imo).

Interesting that Adobe seem to refer to bug patches as 'Fixed customer issues'.

I've been playing with Creative Cloud since I did a wedding this weekend and as I shot it alongside my girlfriend, I've found the collaborative stuff extremely good.
We took way too many pictures and I had an external drive fail just after I'd copied them from the memory cards, which was pretty hair raising. So I've paid the extra 5 quid a month deal for 1TB of space on CC and I've uploaded them there. I hadn't realised quite how well it all integrates now.

I can edit the pictures in Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, my phone and practically anywhere else and it all syncs up.
I've also created a collection of Finished Proofs, which I've shared on the web and let the bride have access to...she's a close friend or I wouldn't ordinarily do this. It's pretty cool that she can see them as soon as I've processed them, with no effort from me.

Good free intermediate tut here from Kelby. Interesting to see him flip to PS for a content-aware-fill ... I really must use that more often!

Cheers for that, i've always wondered a quick way to remove distracting elements from a photo. I knew it was possible but not that easy.

Yes, I saw videos when the feature was first introduced, and had a play with it myself, but never used it for serious editing. Amazing how well it works !

Here's a good walk-through of a photo edit using some less-common LR features -

Varanasi Before and After

If you've never used the Guided Upright tool, it really is wonder ! I'm still to experiment with the Color Range Mask tool, but I have found the Radial filter to be more and more useful (as here).

My LR/PS CC Photo Classic (or whatever it's called this year!) is up for renewal. Previously, I've managed to bag the annual subs for $99 (B&H) then at Amazon UK for £80 and then £70.

Currently, Amazon UK is £110, DE is EUR131 (£117), n/a at the US site for some reason, but $120 (£93) at B&H.

3 weeks ago, I got onto Adobe support's live chat, and was told quite easily that he could price match my previous sub at £70. But I think I was misunderstood, as the guy I just chatted with wouldn't budge, with not even a retention offer.

Anyone seen any deals about ? Looks like I might have to wait for the chance of a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal. (I've got a price alert with 3Camels, in case of a discount.)

Apparently, at the end of a 12m period, if you go into your account and select 'cancel', some folks are getting a sweetener of a free 90 days.

Dropped to £90 (=£7.50/month) as part of Amazon's 20% off software deal. Think I will hold fire in the hope a cheaper Black Friday price later this month.

It's usually cheaper for Prime Day so I would think it would be cheaper on Black Friday

Yep - now deal of the day (15hrs left) @ £75. Anyone know if I can make multiple buys? And if so, should I buy a couple of years now?!

Good that you waited. I'm not sure how long the codes last.
