The Digital Fix Forums Albums of the Year 2017

Like the last few years it's probably not worth allocating points and posting any results but it's still interesting to see other peoples favourites. So here are my albums of the year.

1. Paul Draper – Spooky Action
2. At The Drive-In – in.ter a.li.a
3. Steven Wilson – To The Bone
4. Blackfield – V
5. Anathema – The Optimist
6. Mastodon – Emperor Of Sand
7. Seether – Poison The Parish
8. The Afghan Whigs – In Spades
9. Stone Sour – Hydrograd
10. Gun – Favourite Pleasures

In no order, these are the ones just missing out on the top ten spot:

Danzig – Black laden Crown
Morrissey – Low In High School
Mount Holly – Stride By Stride
Stereophonics – Scream Above The Sounds
Daniel Cavanagh - Monochrome
The Picturebooks – Home Is A Heartache
Godsticks - Faced With Rage
Prophets of Rage - Prophets of Rage
Public Service Broadcasting - Every Valley

Worthy of a mention are:

Arcadea – Arcadea
Queens Of The Stone Age – Villains
Black Star Riders – Heavy Fire
Thunder – Rip It Up
Liam Gallagher – As You Were
Marilyn Manson – Heaven Upside Down
The Waterboys – Out Of All This Blue
Hallas – Excerpts From A Future Past
Life Of Agony – A Place Where There's No More Pain
Nickelback – Feed The Machine
Deep Purple – Infinite
Danko Jones – Wild Cat

It's been quite an expensive year as there have been some great Vinyl box sets and 5.1 deluxe editions which I'm a sucker for. Things like

Metallica super deluxe editions
Black Sabbath Ten Year War box set
The ongoing Jethro Tull Reissues
Rush 40th Anniversary box sets

Finally I must mention the superb live album Where We Stood from The Pineapple Thief.

[edit]
Added a few titles that I had forgot about, top 10 remains the same

Will have to put some thought into this. But firstly, did you go and see Paul Draper on tour? He’s releasing his gig at the Scala (I was there) on vinyl, but only available during his tour next year. Cracking album.

Before getting to my Top 10, RIP Tom Petty.
I know that there have been many musical deaths in recent years, but in terms of my favourite all-time artists, this was a big one.

1. The Barr Brothers - "Queens of the Breakers"
2. Josh Ritter - "Gathering"
3. Ryan Adams - "Prisoner"
4. Son Volt - "Notes Of Blue"
5. Husky - "Punchbuzz"
6. Blitzen Trapper - "Wild & Reckless"
7. John Mellencamp - "Sad Clowns & Hillbillies"
8. The Weather Station - "The Weather Station"
9. Jim White - "Waffles, Triangles & Jesus"
10. Radiator King - "A Hollow Triumph After All"

No sadly I didn't go, I got the email about the live album and it did say any left will be for sale online but with only 1k available I doubt they'd be any left.

I thought it was good when I first listened, but the best 2 tracks "Grandview" and "All Night Talk Radio" were recorded in the 90s, so that kind of put things in perspective. It's certainly not a great album .......... just the 7th best that I bought this year, and it wasn't a great year musically. I'd recommend listening to "Queens of the Breakers" by The Barr Brothers instead.
