Totally agree.

I even think I like it better than the final album version ( after only 1 play )

Superb BBC4 documentary last night. Typically they ignored or barely mentioned my favourite tracks from the album (Fight from the Inside, All Dead All Dead, Sheer Heart Attack), but there was so much new material in there that it was a joy from start to finish.

Loved the footage of the guys playing the wrong instruments, and John's reply to the question of whether he'd ever make a solo album.

I'm assuming that this is the documentary that will be included in the forthcoming boxset, although that does have a different title so there may be some changes. Also, the BBC doc was in HD, whereas the boxset is only coming on DVD.

I just watched Queen Rock the World which I really enjoyed. i don't really have any Queen apart from greatest hits 1 and 2 but would like to explore a bit more. What is the best studio album would you say?

Difficult. Start on Queen 2, work up to News of the World.

As CLH says, it is a difficult question.

Not helped by, IMHO, they seemed to switch 'style' once they started getting popular ( for want of a better phrase ) and you will find that Queen, Queen II, ANATO and ADATR are all very different to the latter works like The Works and AKOM.

Every album has very good moments though, personally, I rarely listen to the first two albums. But this maybe because I got into Queen quite late on, ANATO and NOTW onwards.

My recommendations for starting albums would be 'Sheer Heart Attack' and 'News of the World' if you want the "pure" Queen. Heavy rock but very melodic and radio friendly with an enormous range of styles. They are both very accessible, and probably my favourite two albums. SHA in particular is the sound of a band unleashing their full creative potential in the studio.

'Queen II' is incredible, but it's dense and very prog-rock. Probably not the best place to jump in if all you know from them is their hits. Honestly, their first 6 albums were pretty much flawless.

After that, there's a definite change towards pop (which was always lurking in the background). I've never really enjoyed 'Jazz', although that is more down to the horrible production rather than the song writing. Once you hit the '80s, keyboards begin to feature heavily but 'The Game' is a masterpiece.

The rest of the '80s stuff is mixed, sometimes great sometimes a bit meh. Lots of adventurous songwriting mixed with very bland stuff, but I always thought they over-relied on the electronic side of things by this point. If you enjoy that sound, though, it'll be exactly what you're after.

Their '90s stuff is excellent. It was a bit more raw and is imbued with a melancholy quality because they knew Freddie didn't have long left. 'Innuendo' is over produced but full of excellent songs, and 'Made In Heaven' is just beautiful.

Any sign of a leaked set list yet? Or are we expecting a different set in the UK anyway?

It think they've added A Kind Of Magic to that, obviously to reinforce the News Of The World theme that the marketing was promising (?!)

Well I watched the guys in Manchester last night and it’s a phenomenal show , Lambert has really found his feet with the band now , you could really tell he was slightly uncomfortable on the first tour he did , not this time , and I must admit I marked out when they went from “love with my car” straight into “get down make love” , the show also contains one of the campest things I have ever seen , I won’t spoil it for you lucky people yet to see it !

I've got two tickets for the O2 in London on 13th. It's going to be a real pain in the backside trying to get there, so I was looking to offload them.

And then platty posts that and I start dithering!

Sounds great - really looking forward to Friday now.

Any major deviations from the set list jpig posted the other week?

So ... the concert ( at least on Friday ) starts at 8pm, finishes at 10:30pm with no support and no interval.

2.5h of non-stop Queen - excellent

Let's see ...

Absolutely fantastic show.

There may well be only 1 Freddie Mercury but, damn, Adam Lambert comes frigging close

Very tempting - and might even take the kids this time - but ... Queen + Adam Lambert are back at The O2 and Wembley Arena on 1st and 2nd July ( looking at the pre-sale info, the Arena show is on the 1st ).

Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
