A title card and PS in costume such as it was; is not enough to make me wet my knickers in excitement.

I'm hoping that we will get some Picard in space battle action but I doubt it. With this team it will be more drama and feelings stuff, just look at the writers' previous credits.

Until JJ and DSC Star Trek has never been about space battles and has always been about drama, the what if, philosophical questions and feelings.

True but plenty of star trek had pew pew episodes.
Drama, the what if, philosophical questions and feelings. Are great if written well but the writers on std are not good writers at all their version of star trek drama etc comes off more like Twilight saga in space.

ST never had pew pew episodes on the scale of STD. Apparently netflix rejected the picard show

More because they couldn’t than they didn’t want to.

And we watched it and enjoyed it nonetheless. Having said that DS9 had a fair few pew pew episodes and were great.

And I said in the DS9 thread, during the dominion War was the best of Trek

to me a "pew pew episode" is just just effects with very little decent story. The dominion War had a great story arc, there was no effects just because it looked good

Pew Pew aside, we can agree that there are plenty of action episodes even in TOS. STD and JJ movies took it to the extreme at the expense of decent writing and character development.

They haven't done a good job of STD and if rumors are true that Picard will not be like the Picard of TNG who are they trying to appeal to this time?

We've been burned with a show that failed to attract as many new followers as they hoped and alienated fans once; and it looks like fans are going to get **** on again with how a favorite character is going to be re imagined.

Space battles are only good if you have characters you care about in peril. This is where STD falls flat on its face.

nerdrotic are reporting a rumor that STD is dead and done; all the money is going into Picard.

Could have a spark of truth in it as Netflix passed on Picard - which i don't think they would have. If they thought it was going to be a hit; which if done right it should be but with the same team behind it as STD its not likely to be.

They also say that Licencees still are not happy so for those that like the toys there won't be any, that is more money not coming in. They have sold it to air on Space in Canada odd when CBS all access is available in Canada.

I'd speculate that Netflix are a lot more concerned with numbers and the like and can see it all in real time. Naturally they'll be able to see that I gave it a go for a few episodes, then binned it off, people not returning avidly for the next series, people not signing up to Netflix to watch it and so forth.

I'm someone who did a series binge of DS9 and Voyager on the service.

I'm not saying I'm a typical of everyone, but I'd guess quite a few people thought the same.

That being said I'll give Picard a go

It's filmed in Canada and they have some very strong laws about protecting Canada and jobs hence why it's on Space and not CBSAA.

Discovery was the 5th most watched show on Netflix in April.

https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a27418...s-films-april/

We don't know if Netflix passed, if Amazon just offered an ungodly amount of money or if CBS doesn't want all Trek in one place internationally so when they finally expand internationally that can say they are the home of Trek.

So I can't put you down for one of those denim discovery jackets then?

I'm expecting the Tilly doll that won't stop spouting crap at the worst moments. (in the style of a giant furby in discovery uniform)

Or perhaps I could persuade you to buy a Stamets grow your own magic mushrooms set? Take you own voyage of discovery right from your own living room to the nearest emergency ward. Fun for all the family.

Netflix paid 100% of season one's budget and at at least 8 million an episode thats 120 million and didn't like what they got for the money. CBS tried to sell the the short Treks which was just stuff flimed with a small crew on exisiting sets but were asking quite a bit but Netflix ended up getting them for nothing and without much fanafare dumped them in the trailers and more section.

They paid less for season 2 meaning CBS had to make up the difference and still were not happy with the product.

You can't get any toys based on discovery so the people that make them are not happy with it either.

Netflix would have seen a bit more than a title card and PS in what looks like a civilian uniform, before making the decsion to pass, Netflix pay lots of money for stuff that ends up being naff but the cost of Picard is supposed to be higher than discovery and after being burned twice who can blame them for passing.

Its the same team behind it
Licencees don't like it
It's not Picard as we knew him which is not what fans want to see
TNG aesthetic is unlikely

How could you expect this to be a hit no fan wants to see picard as an old miserable bitter ******* or head of section 31 both versions are not who picard was.

It didn't work for Luke Skywalker or Professor X (I did not like that he was so frail and ill in Logan) and it won't work here, unless you are going to bring him back as he was but older, wiser perhaps a little tired at first but gets through it during the course of events it will be last jedi backlash all over again.

I expect another mawling for AK and crew simlar to what Rick Berman got for killing Kirk off if they mess this up.
