Good win, everything going well so far... ...except of course not a bleedin' sniff of Rashford!!! He was the story of last season and arguably England's best player in the Euros but obviously not good enough for the special one.
...come on Maureen, put the wonder kid on, he would shine in this team

Yes fine, we won the game - but we lost the possession game

Very early days, but damn this is a nice, promising feeling again

Isn't this what you expect with Jose though?

Rashford played well last season, in a team playing badly he looked decent. But he's young and not a finished player, so he's playing established players and winning matches. The PL is littered with decent ex-Chelsea kids who he didn't give a chance to.

Rashford will play. He's the only other striker we have apart from Ibra. I hope his chances are eith Ibra at the expense of Rooney, as I am sure that will further improve the team. Lots of optioms now though.

Frustratingly not seen a game yet this season.

Only missed a couple over the last three years.

Where's the justice!

Really pleased with Borthwick-Jackson on loan. I hear WBA and Burnley wanted him as well but our new Mourinho contacts (Andrea Butti who worked with him at Milan, is now our technical director) swung the deal!

I remember he played a fair bit last season and looked pretty good from what I remember.

Blackett to Reading on a three year deal.

Say what you will about Van Gaal at least he gave the kids a chance.

He did, but then again he had to.
There's no way Rashford would have got a start in the Europa without an injury to Martial. Same is true for the others.

You can either give the kids a chance or win things, as you say LVG did give them a chance and whilst receiving praise for doing so, he was also vilified for them failing to perform on the pitch (admittedly down to his tactics).

Most of these youth teams just seem to be a farm to sell young players to other teams

He bombed most of them back out as soon as seniors recovered. He dropped Blackett for Rojo who is awful.

Blackett isn't good enough. He was subbed on and off twice at Celtic in 8 games.

There is giving kids a chance, and there is keeping players who aren't good enough at the club, harming their careers. Blackett is better off at another club, as he was never going to make it at Utd.

We've produced dozens of championship and premiership level players who weren't good enough for us. If we keep them too long, they end up suffering for it. We've learned that lesson from the days of the likes of Chris Casper.

Means occasionally players will develop later who might have been good enough but better to risk that, than stunt a players development to stockpile them.

Plus keeping the likes of Blackett, love and macnair only creates a block for the likes of Tuanzebe and other younger players who may still make the grade with us.

It happens a fair bit at all clubs, kids come in and do OK as subs or cover, but it's a tough one, they're not necessarily good enough to command a first team place all the time, so what do you do with them? How many times can you go on loan? Especially with a big club, you need to be a world class player (or should be) to hold down a place.

That's why it's so hard for kids to succeed at a big club. They need to be the cream of the crop and very lucky.

My view is that if they get to 21 or 22, and they aren't absolutely destined for stardom, sell them on and let them find their level/continue their development.

Look at Will Keane. He should have been sold a year or two ago, possibly earlier as it was clear he won't ever force his way into the team. He should be given a free now, of no buyers come in, otherwise we are definitely going to damage his career. Varela should have been sold, not loaned out again.

The Manchester Utd Thread 2015/2016

Tonight was the sort of game we wouldn't have won under LVG - in fact a very different game to what we have been used to these past 3 years - a genuine onslaught for the past 30 mins, and for the first time since Fergie I thought we had to score!

Fair play to Hull, a really gutsy performance from them - Phelan has to get the job, and I hope for their sake they can get some players in.

Rashford and Miki were brilliant when they came on. Rashers reminds me of Fat Ronaldo - I love watching him play. Miki reminds me of Kanchelskis and thankfully is someone who runs at players and makes things happen.

Very exciting.

My trainers are still wet from all the rain at the game yesterday - it started before kick-off and just got worse throughout the game, never letting-up. To win a game in those conditions - especially that late - already feels like a huge three points. As Madstu says, that would've been a draw all day long the last three seasons - promising stuff early on in the campaign.

Props to Rooney btw - he's gotten a lot of stick for a while now, but he really did take the game by the scruff of the neck towards the end, and it was no surprise to me that the winner came from his work. Rashford was exceptional obviously when he came on, but I think Mkhitaryan was the game-changer - the full attacking onslaught we saw in the last third of the match seemed to come with his arrival. I can't wait until he begins starting games for us

Rashers and Miki!?

Loving the football, not loving the nicknames.

I can't see anyone using Rashers, but Miki is good, mostly because it avoids spelling and pronunciation problems!

Schooled in possession. We look knackered. Going to take something special to get back in to this. They look like they've got one more man.

The Manchester Utd Thread 2015/2016

Poor first half. But still in it. City were always going to have more possession, Pep v Jose always results in possession vs counter attack.

Good, pacey options from the bench. Martial for Lingard is a no brainer. Question is who does Rashford come on for? Rooney or Miki?

...was pretty special, what a finish!

...Rashford needs to come on now, they do look better than us so we need to change things.

...can't believe it's so quiet in here on derby day
